They made some big steps this offseason.. only to be detoured by the CBA talk...

1: the USL and NASL merged to create a solid second division with possibly a pro/relagation in the future...

next step is for MLS to create a reserve league.. It is hard to compete in the American market for soccer..
The way I see it, if you cant fit a commercial in every couple minutes then the networks dont want anything to do with it.. sad really..

To be honest mate, this country is also getting raped from the inside with commercial [Poor language removed]. Getting pig sick of marketing at the moment. Go and ******* Compare This!!!!

The BBC creates the base level of funding, and Sky do well with 24 hour sports channels along with their sports subscription channels.

Know what you mean though.

Basically, for MLS to grow you need to develop players and "sell them on" to mass-audience leagues like the English league. and get these products of the MLS seen. Not just rely on imports of foreign players.

As American players like Donovan ultimately create strong domestic interest. Also improve the national team.

Everton have been doing alot to this, at grass routes level with 5 "partnerships". Plus we played the MLS "all-stars" etc along with preseason tours.

it'll come, donovan's shown what's possible - if american's pick the right teams (which isn't always money related).

I still think all this is a game being played by Moyes/ Arena EFC/ MLS..

I cant imagine Bruce Arena thinking that Donovan should stay in MLS.. He cant be that stupid...

And just imagine the uplift for the fans/ team when all this suspence ends on a good note.. A permanent signing of LD for less than originally thought?! say 4-5 mil U.S.

**one can hope**

Could be along the lines of two players a year come and train at finch farm for a season, coaches come see the setup. etc.

Galaxy have had 9 years out of donovan that is considering remarkable loyalty.

galaxy supporters should be looking at the next products though (i realise your "recruitment" system is different to english models).

at everton when a player gets to 29 or 30 the team really needs to think about a longer term replacement in the youth system (or getting ready for an outlay in transfer funds in a season or so).

i hope galaxy fans realise this. they need to be looking for "the next donovan" anyway.

Well yeah

Its abit hard to know who are well supported clubs and who arn't over the pond.

Its very different.

Although the if you get the second tier setup properly that you mentioned properly - that are scouring for players and how to develop them, plus sell these players on, to european teams after say 4 years (24 ish) who can then return to the MLS at 30 ish

then that model should bring the level of MLS up as it creates domestic interest sustainably and you have a much larger pool of international players. (and by that I mean world class players ultimately). which in turn feeds back into the domestic interest.

I don't know what our American cousins are like, but over here football (and Everton) is a 24/7 obsession. Morning. Noon. Night. Majority is geographical based. Where people originate from which is why you might explain this obsession.

well in on that goal today, you can tell he wanted to hammer that one home... hope he stays, but if not, he'll be back in the EPL for sure in some form or another (hopefully with Everton).
