Sir Landon Of Donovan

Nope! I want him back at my club. (y)

I wouldn't be angry at him if he stayed at Everton since he has put in the time with the Galaxy. I do want him back though and at this point we only have a month until our season starts so if he leaves us at this point it's going to be hard to get someone of his skill to replace him.

I don't mind if he stays. In fact, I support it. He is becoming a much better player and is playing with more motivation and passion than I've seen in quite some time. He is obviously very happy being a blue and I'm excited to watch Everton each week. The first half of the MLS season is essentially meaningless. We heard the same griping from the fans here on Beckham's extended loan last year but I knew Beckham would return mid season when we needed the boost to carry us into the playoffs. This is exactly what happened last year. With a playoff system, it matters most that a team "peaks" late in the season. RSL won the Cup last year but barely made the playoffs and then hit peak form in the playoffs. I have no problem with an extended loan to Everton and Donovan returning after the World Cup to carry us back to the Cup championship one last time before transferring to Everton. This is the perfect scenario!

Gosh and I thought the Soviet Union was bad.

On another note, yes Donovan has done well, he may well return to MLS. But with regard to his playing one should also consider the players that have been around him of which I have no doubt they are a cut above the MLS/LA players.

As I suspected the owners will simply walk away from MLS before they allow free agency. They are already losing money and the interest in the US isn't high enough for the players to have that kind of clout. If Chad Marshall disappears, he simply won't be missed. If the MLS owners walk away they can simply write off their red ink. It's up to the players now.

You would think that FIFA would get involved, as I cant think of another nations FA that - without taking age into account - allows clubs to keep a player's registration and recieve a fee for him after the players contract is up. Is it even legal in the US?

Interesting to see him down the left handside, something I've wanted to see, I thought it improved his all round involvement in the game. It gave him a bit more freedom and more options. On the right he has a tendency to run away from the play and try and run into space, this can be great, but it can also leave Neville with little options but to chip the ball forward, at times.

As a right footer on the left handside he's got to come short more, he can drift inside and he can also hit the byline. It also got him closer to players like Baines, Pienaar and Osman, players who are on his wavelength.

The left wing is definitely his favored position and I really enjoyed seeing Landon and Peanut linking up and attacking the whole game. I hope Moyes keeps a similar midfield for the Lisbon match. You can also tell that Landon enjoys being on Baines' side so that when he cuts to the middle he can find Baines with the overlapping run.

No doubt mate, Everton has got great players from top to bottom. When Beckham plays in LA the only other true star that plays with him, in my opinion, is Landon Donovan. Donovan has been MLS player of the year so many times, has been a constant threat, we already know what he can do and want him to be pushed further. He grew up in MLS, became the player he is today in MLS, but he has already won everything possible in that league. Donovan in such a talented squad as what Everton are is simply too perfect a scenario to relinquish. I never liked him going to Germany anyway and the fact he is slotting in as if he has been there for years in the PREM no less is fantastic!!!

Everton are a fun team to watch, they have much promise for a good run next year, Donovan HAS to be a part of this!!!!!!!

The league owns the registrations, not the players.

The long-threatened labor dispute between MLS players and owners seems to be heating up....

Odds may improve for Donovan to stay at least a little while longer....

100% agree. the biggest thing i took away from the manchester united match was the improved chemistry on the left side between baines & donovan. it seemed to be worlds better than neville/donovan. too bad that's normally pineaar's spot.

i don't think donovan will stay past march 15th unless the MLS has a strike. if he extended his loan he'd be a hypocrite after what he said about beckham last year. i am very optimistic for everton to sign him after the summer, however. wahl's article just said there wasn't a buy-out price, not that he couldn't be bought. so basically we're all guessing 6M pounds/10M US because that was the earlier precedent set for Jozy. The real question now becomes will the MLS be greedy and shoot for the moon, or will they be reasonable and let donovan go back to everton for fair value? I also feel that moyes could make the permanent transfer happen in the summer if he really wanted to; now he's got time to plan.

the thing that sucks the most is waiting that long to see him wear blue again. :pint:

How likely is the lockout?

I don't think a lockout is possible. I haven't read the links that are in this post, but basically the MLS said they'd be happy to use the option where they operate under the old CBA if one is not agreed to before the season starts. This is in contrast to what they've said previously.

So basically, they're putting the onus back on the players to either 1. play under the previous rules or 2. strike.

I really don't understand what Donovan's position will be if the players strike or if there is a lockout. I don't think it's as cut and dried as everyone thinks, he is contracted to the MLS and he is their "asset." I'm not really all that certain that they'd allow him to continue to play while the league itself is shutttered.

I'm thinking a player's strike is more likely than a lock-out by the owners. So I'm not sure how that affects Landon's ability to stay.

As far as his criticism of Beckham last year (it was actually 2008, but didn't hit the press until 2009), it had NOTHING to do with Beckham extending his stay with Milan. It had EVERYTHING to do with Beckham not being a leader and captain in the last half of the abysmal 2008 season while he was with the Galaxy.

Donovan has said he understands why Becks went to AC Milan and was wishing him well. The fans are the ones who got pissed at Becks for extending the loan and the way in which he did it.

It's the timing of the release of that book which created all the confusion.
