Sir Landon Of Donovan

I don't think we need Donovan atm, but I would welcome him coming back on loan in January if Anichebe or Bilyaletdinov don't work out, but i'm at least happy with big Vic right now.

Hi The Yank -

I didn't say I was boycotting MLS - that was a quote from Bill Simmons at ESPN. I've been watching the LA Galaxy play. All I was saying is that Landon's skill deserves another go at EPL. Yes, everyone misses chances - including Landon (I remember a couple of whiffs at Goodison Park). But he is better than the rest in MLS and deserves some playing time in the best league.

Didn't want to knock the MLS, just is what it is.

I hope he comes back on loan at least bases on what everyone else is saying. I'd like to adopt a team with someone I've invested some time in researching...

Donovan and Buddle score as Galaxy win 2-1
The Los Angeles Galaxy became the latest team to snatch all three points from a trip to RFK Stadium on Sunday night, as strikes from Edson Buddle and Landon Donovan gave the Californians a 2-1 victory over luckless D.C. United.

Paced by the hard running of teenager Andy Najar and new striker Pablo Hernandez, United fought gamely but could not overcome the gulf in quality between themselves and the league’s frontrunners, who now own an impressive 6-2-2 record away from the Home Depot Center.

Donovan and Buddle were given a far friendlier welcome than usual by the RFK crowd, as the home fans saluted their World Cup efforts with rousing applause during pregame introductions.

It didn’t take long for Donovan to threaten Troy…

Definitely very possibly this, chig. But I wouldn't be so quick to write off something perm at this point. Just a hunch. Lando has more power & influence than any American player, & both he & MLS know that. To this point he's said all the right things. But he's also mentioned many times recently that if something comes along where he wants something different, he'll "let someone know". And there's something very confident about the way he's been saying it, almost a bit of "Garber, you REALLY don't want me on the wrong side of the fence, whether publicly or even privately amongst players; they'll listen to me, we both know it."

Also find some of the recent domestic "stars" making moves from MLS (sacha, bornstein, etc) interesting & dare I say indication that the league is more mindful of their less than great reputation amongst players on this matter. They don't want the next generation of Landons bypassing them altogether & heading to Scandinavia out of fear of not being allowed to move later. They're not stupid. And to bring this component full circle, Landon is the flagship, numero uno example of who NOT to [Poor language removed] w/ a blocked move. But this is only one component.

Of course there's also the issue of the "offer". My hunch is, at present, only a Steve and/or Mikel transfer would prompt a bid. For NOW. But even then, there's no guarantee Davey will use the money on LD. We all know it's just as likely he's got an ace up his sleeve which he's placing above Landon in terms of priority.

We'll see.

As many have said...."watch this space". Could see Moyes using any Pienaar money (if there is any to be had) to trot it right over to MLS and demand Donovan. Then again....

"Donovan needs to grab his chance."

Former USA captain John Harkes has told Landon Donovan to make a move to the Premiership permanent. The former Derby and Sheff Wed player thinks that the 28 year old should join the Premier League for a longer period than the successful loan spell at Everton last season.

Donovan had a great World Cup and moneybags Man City are said to be interested, but the pull of Everton may just be enough to get him back to Goodison.

John Harkes said: "I think if the opportunity presents itself he should go. Obviously it depends on what he wants as an individual but if the opportunity presents itself for him to take that challenge he needs to do it now - to really commit to playing overseas and do it for a longer period of time, which is better than doing it in the short-term, like he did with Everton.

It was a successful and fantastic experience, but he needs to do it over a longer period of time. That's when you get challenged in more ways, so if it's there I think he should grasp the opportunity and go for it."

If Everton make a move, Donovan will make it happen.

The ball is in Everton's court.

Agree 99% Man City is not in the cards at all. Donovan is a loyal guy and Everton is where he will go. MLS is trying to bring in older big name foreign players, to attract fans. The writing is on the wall. Donovan will go to the EPL, and Everton is his home after LA. Would you stay in the MLS if you were Donovan when they are bringing over washed up french players that underperformed in the WC and the run up to the games, when you still had game and a good WC? Think about it.
