I thought he was playing for QLD later this year in the 20 20.

Not any more , lid .

His last appearance for Lancs would've been in Lpool - Crosby , about 6 weeks ago . He didn't feel right on the day , an' THAT was why he had the further scan .

His knee was basically held together with chewing gum and lassy bands .

Damn shame that he didn't get to say Goodbye , though . At Lancs .

Today , saw an end to the finest English Cricketer of the last 20 years .

Andrew " Freddie " Flintoff , was finally forced to submit to the injuries sustained whilst putting tweleve times his body weight - 16 Stone , through his knees and ankles , every ball he bowled - primarily for his Country , but also his beloved Lancashire . And he bowled A LOT.

A supremely talented individual , there was a time there 04/05 , where he was as good as anything around . Could bat , well , bowled like the Goddamned wind , whilst swinging it late both ways at 90mph , an' with a Yorker to DIE FOR . He also caught Pigeons in the slips . An' , LOVED giving it to the Swag Bagger's , too - though in fairness , took a hiding , then came back , on one leg , an' still showed 'em who was Guv'nor . Even Warney loved him . An' Binga .

If any one you have ever witnessed this man play for England , I challenge you to compare him with our more high profile Footy players . Fred pisses all over them for sheer committment an' actually wanting to be there .

He weren't perfect . No way . Liked a bevvy , an' a cigar . Liked a few . But it was a ,
" With the lads " , attitude , and was juvenile at worst . Not cynical , media minipulation an' NOT carrying on with his mate's bird .

I am of course , biased . I have Fred's Shirt on my living room wall . Also a signed Ashes Poster from Edgbaston '05 . I LOVE Freddie , me , but for those of you whom do not , or are impartial , he was a GEEZER , and we are unlikely to see his like again .

So , Andrew Flintoff , O.B.E. , may your retirement be long and not too uncomfortable .

You ROCK , Sir .

Classic Fred-ism ; " ... Watch the windows , Tino ,.." Legend , btw .

Not bad , for a fat lad .

Super Freddie Flintoff . Sup-er , Super Fred' ,...

One of the greatest allrounders ever to play the great game!

I hope he plays some t20 cricket outside the international stage by the time he's around 35 and maybe is fit.

Legend. Lucky enough to see him play at glorious Trent Bridge. Good luck Fred.

Seen him loads .

He ROCKED at O.T. in '05 , an' the Oval , Trent Bridge , Edgbaston .

Also 03 South Africa / 04 Windies . India away . Superb , btw .

Superb .

The over to Ponting at Edgbaston '05 on that Saturday evening , turned the whole series , and the one on the Monday dinner hour at Lords last year , that got Haddin and bamboozled Hauritz and Siddle weren't bad , neither , an' made them believe they could do it again .

One of the lads to the end , an' all .

Ill ALWAYS buy you a Bevvy , Big Lad . Any- Goddamned - Time , btw .

God Speed .

His stats aren't 'that' good after a pretty slow start to his England career, but for a few years, culminating in that Ashes summer, he was up there with the very best. That over he bowled to get rid of Langer and Ponting was fast bowling at its finest.

For Cricket buffs ; As for his Stat's , 2 seperate England Captains , stiched him up . As , despite being our best bowler , they used him as a workhorse , looking to rough up batsmen , instead of hitting the stumps . This was a bona fide plan - particularly under Fletcher , and cost him 50-70 wickets , imo .

Check his shifts , vs India / Pak / Sri Lanka / South Africa / Windies , Away .

From 2003 or so onwards his bowling was pretty much always under 30 so there's no doubt at his peak he was a world class bowler and a galvanising force for the side. That five man attack of Hoggard, Harmison, Flintoff, Jones and Giles was top notch. If we had a similar standard attack now but with Swann in for Giles we'd win the Ashes quite comfortably this winter.

Growing up there was a shed load of really world class quick bowlers, guys like Wasim, Waqar, Ambrose, Walsh, McGrath, Pollock, Donald. I can hardly think of any quick bowler around now that is of a similar standard, but Flintoff at his best was up there with those guys.

To me he's always going to be a bit of a "what if" sort of player..what if he didnt get injured so much etc how good could he have been? one of the best ever, injury free i mean, yes without doubt, but given his terrible injuries he was to me "merely" a bloody good all rounder, not as good as the 80's demi gods but not far short either.

But he saw sense and gave up now before he does himself real damage long term so good luck lad.
