Or at least put the ' members on-line ' directly underneath it so we can actually see who's there, instead of having to scroll the page down to find out.

Shoutbox at the top, active members box directly underneath it, and maybe the facility for it to be permanently visible regardless of what forum section you are in as opposed to the first welcome screen. Don't know how feasible this will be though. it would be nice to see the shouts whilst reading the forums as opposed to always having to go back to the main page to see if you have any replies(no matter how insulting they are)

One curious thing I've noticed regarding the shout box is a reluctance by new members to use it. I can only presume they think its the domain of a select few, it isn't, everyone has the right to use, new members simply join in please you are more than welcome.

they'll be knee deep in posts on the actual forum, sometimes the shoutbox goes quiet even though there are people online, just one of those things.

anyway yeahm like monty says, its for all to use, and it can be quite fun, especially trying to juggle 3 converstaions at once

If you have the skills ajax it and make it a pop-up. Or download a pre made ajax one and provide a link to it for members

OR get an IRC applet and drop that in there with maybe 2-3 channels in there for people to jump in to.

The position of the shoutbox is not the problem, the problem is that the ' who's online ' is not directly underneath it, at the moment you have to keep scrolling down to see who else has logged in.
