Should we prepare for life after...

Lukaku reckons they were there to be signed up and the club failed to pay out for them.

Thats a bit mischievious Dave...he actually said that there are 'some players in the League that we could have gone for', and didn't mention any names. And I'm sure there are...but its not much of a criticism by Lukaku...the same situation applies to every club at every window. Names are bandied about. That's all.

"I don't know what the board's plan is. I don't really know. Obviously stuff is changing and stuff is happening, but like I said there were some players that we could have got. That I knew the club could have got and they didn't get. And they are playing in this league. I am not saying names, but they are doing well."

Does my statement look mischievous or pretty much on the money now?

Ask Lukkau to provide it for you, they were his words.
That's fine but I find it unlikely that he would have been involved in the transfer dealings of the club, my bet is he is just reading newspapers, listening to so called ITK's just like the rest of us. Players we supposedly wanted were hardly reaching out for us to come and get them, pointing to the more likely scenario that they just didn't want to sign for us. As for Lukaku when we signed him there wasn't exactly a huge line of clubs queuing up and fighting us for his signature. Don't get me wrong I believe he's good I'm just stating that it's going to be easier to sign a relatively unknown quantity, as in Lukaku, than it is to sign a player who is already a star or a player who is wanted by top clubs. Our image is in tatters after years of abuse, it's going to take time to fix it.

Come on now, so every game he never scored was not good enough.

Good luck finding a suitable replacement who will score every game then.
All about opinions mate and mine is we can improve without him if we get a decent fee. I think we have massively overpriced him and if we can get close to that I would bite their hand off. When you think about it Athletico do this every year and Monaco recently and it's done them no harm.

I think he has more info than ITKs. He's a professional footballer.

If he said we had players lined up but they didn't get over the line I'd take that as a given.

Ok but it remains they didn't exactly queue up to sign for us, there certainly seems to be an image problem there.

Half of those players are out of our reach; the other half are a bit meh.

We've had a CL class goalscorer for the past few seasons and achieved no silverware or CL spot with him. I dont think an amalgamation of lesser forces to give a better balance of goals will move us up a notch. We need better players plus a CL quality goal scorer.

Same old Everton this summer: sell the silverware ---> recycle the cash ----> fall short again.

...good job they have these stadium schemes to distract or they'd be pitchforked out of the boardroom.

Not sure any of them are out of reach to be honest mate.

I think it can be easily done, I think in a lot of ways Lukaku leaving enables the team and opens up options.

We qualified for the CL with Marcus Bent up front.

What's healthy for Lukaku, isn't always healthy for the team or the club.

Theoretically.

If we're to get onto the next level and off this no mark 7th level we have to have a CL quality striker and surround them with players on that level or just short of that.

We'll end up with Bas Dost or some other of that type and someone like Tadic to service him, and it wont be an upgrade.

I would be surprised if we had one player who matched Roms out put, in fact in a way I would be dissapointd, it's disportiare to be that reliant on one source and a house of care waiting to happen. We need variance and we need two strikers who compliment each other. We need a 10 and two inside forwards. I believe this is what Koeman meant last week when talking about offensive signings. Could that cohort take in 24 goals, of course it could. I think Lukaku could struggle to match his out put at another club, he has the whole team here trying to trigger him, he won't get that elsewhere.

I disagree with you to an extent in a CL striker, obviously we want the best striker we can get. Yet I think a good well rounded team is the defineing factor as opposed to individuals. We've done it ourselves. Leicester have also proved a good well rounded team with variance can be that successful. Not just last season, but they were plugging away in the CL until mid April.

Looking at individuals to get you over the line for success or CL is fools gold, you said it yourself we have failed for four years with Rom.

No one is paying 100 million for Lukaku, so if that is absolutely the case then he isn't going anywhere.

Barkley that's a 50/50. I don't think Koeman really believes he has what it takes in such a crucial position.

You have got it exactly correct, if Everton want £100M for Lukaku and nothing less, then he is staying, if Barkley doesn't
sign his new contract he will go, hope we get as much as we can for him, doubt if it will reach£30M, but really hope he has a good career, could be with us, if he improves and starts playing consistently.

Lukaku has a vested interest in justifying why he wants to leave the club.

What he said might be true but it might just be him trying to look for justification for wanting to leave.

Whichever way you take his comments he is going to be biased. Trusting the word of a spoilt multi millionaire footballer is like trusting Phillip Green to look after your pension fund.

Why is he spoilt?

Why is he spoilt?

So you don't think he's biased?

Your reply seems to be trying to deflect from the main point. His position is biased.

I'm not saying he wasn't telling the truth but assuming he was when he's got a vested interest in justifying feeling let down by the club so he can move on is foolish.

I'm asking you why he's 'spoilt', then you avoid answering that and proceed to say I'm deflecting!
