Watching the game against Blackburn...we really missed Carsley in the middle..I'm not slagging Rodwell cos the boy has a bright future, but my fear is if we lose against WBA on saturday i feel it will be too much pressure for a 17 yr old too handle..we need to protect the young players. Why didn't the board just give Carsley a 2 yr deal...with the 2nd year getting him into the coaching side...this is were you lose games in the middle, we need to sign.....Mbia now...signing a forward can wait...as Vic will be back soon...cahill won't be long in returning and Osman can play just off the Yak if need be...but we really need a holding midfielder.....and given they must of known that there was little money...why let one of your better players go, that was always selected to play by Moyes....it's nothing more than a FARCE.

how could you possibly s1ag rodwell when he wasnt playing in the position that carsley played in ?
i agree we should've tried to keep cars but it seems his mind was set.
i thought rodwell had a great game (apart from a couple of bad passes) against a very physical forward line, i hope he's gained a great deal of confidence from the game as he didnt look like he was under pressure at all and looked more comfortable than some of the more experienced lads, i think joleon looked very rusty but i wont come out an call him a bag of [Poor language removed] cos i know it was a rare bad game for him.

We need a midfielder in for the WBA game to ease the pressure off Rodwell and Jags is no midfielder. Or i can see WBA beating us as they certainly won't fear us going into this game.

Carsley wanted out for personal reasons (good ones at that). It wasn't about the deal or length of it. But we did miss his influence.

His mind was set cos they only offered him a 1 yr deal were as Brum offered him a 2 yr deal.....again it's down to money... it's only when these type of players leave you you can understand what a important player he was to us...in terms of protecting the back 4...which didn't happen on saturday.

i dont think it was the length of the deal, like has been said it was personal reasons, if there's a player that could never be accused of going for the money it's Lee Carsley.

Well hindsight is a wonderful thing isnt it, im sure moyes was confident on securing the services of a DM before the end of the summer and why shouldnt he be? We have consistently finished high in the table and hes been told he has money to spend. What is the point in giving carsley a 2 year deal and pay his wages when hes gettin on and we need someone with more skill in that area, he was not one of our better players, he had a role and he filled it, nothing fancy? We are not a rich club and we cannot afford to have people sat around the place rotting waiting for "just in case" every player is injured, it would be nice but thats the reality.

Accusing us of being a farce when we have acted in the best interests of the club is hardly sensible, you wouldnt be saying this if we had spent £15mil on 2 dm's last week, i know we havent but i bet moyes planned on bringing 2 in over the summer, or at least one and bein hopefully of rodwell stepping up if needed.

He wanted to be back in the midlands were his wife an children live. His mind was set, he was going. No amount of cash or contract lenght would have changed that. Now instead of being home twice a week, he's home every night. You can't argue with that.

I miss Lee Carsley, one of the best midfielders we've had in the premiership, not technically gifted but NEVER let us down.

Also a proper gentlemen, SUPER SUPER LEE!!!!

What this thread should be is --

Why get rid of Carsley and have no one "better" lined up to replace him?

Spot on. It was only right that we let Lee go with our blessing. His reasons for wanting the move were genuine, and he was a fantastic servant to the club.

Knowing that we were losing such a stalwart, moves should have been made early doors (as intimated by Davey) to find a suitable replacement. It may turn out to be M'Bia, but just a few weeks too late, which will have cost us points.
