Shots on target

My take on it is that we play to the wings too much. If we don't have a clear path down the middle we always go out wide. We should concentrate playing through the middle more and if we can win a few free kicks especially with our set piece experts in Baines, Mirallas and Barkley then we will have more chances. I do not like the way we go wide at almost every opportunity.

I agree...particularly so when the deliveries into the box have been pretty poor. And as has been noted, headers?...forget 'em!

Am I right in thinking that in the first 2 months or so of the season, we were top of the Shots on Goal table or something? I'm sure I remember seeing some sort of graphic which had us in the top 5 or so teams in all the major European leagues as well

Last year we had more shots than anyone else in Europe up til November, iirc, you might be thinking of that.

We were.....and it was an oft quoted but utterly meaningless statistical anomaly as most of those shots were powder puff efforts from the edge or outside the box and didn't trouble the opposition goalie.

It's like "assists"......I bet Mirallas has been credited with an "assist" on Saturday.

I agree...to a point at least. If we had Mirallas or Coleman flying down the right wing and Baines and Pienaar down the left, all crossing it for for the likes of Lukaku then we might score some goals. However, as seen against Arsenal, it was Lukaku himself who was finding himself wide on the right and not in the box where he needs to be to score goals. On the left, well, Pienaar seems to break down every attack that he in involved in these days as he now has no pace and is a bit of a waste of space playing wide if he just wants to hold the ball up every time.
We need to get pace back on both flanks and get Lukaku goal hanging a bit more...if only to give the opposition something to think about.

19 shots (6 on target and 13 off target) today to score twice. Massive improvement on our recent average of 1 goal in 15 shots!

Money = Better Players = Better Stats

This doesnt always hold true but I have confidence that with Bobby it would. Pienaar, Osman and Kev not good enough to be regular starters for where we want to be. We need to spend to level up.
