Short memories... Fellaini needs to be in the middle of the park.

Agreed.

But whilst most people acknowledge his defensive weaknesses, I do not have a clue where people have got this idea that Coleman is some kind of accomplished attacking right back? His attacking 'prowess' is so overrated it is untrue.

did you not like the stuff we were playing at the start of the season? having more shots than a real madrid team consisting of ronaldo? he's obviously nowhere near the best all round right back in the world, there's not too many candidates in the world. with him in the team though we were attacking down both flanks, had more versitality in our play and were ripping pretty good teams to shreds. It's not as if our replacements are a much better option either. hibbert has come on a lot in the last year, but he still won't venture too far past the half way line, meaning we're back to same old attacking down the left continuously. we barely created anything in that norwich game when jags was there, and we haven't created an abundance of clear cut chances in the last two games, but i'm willing to excuse that because man city and arsenal are no mugs

This is an example of what I am talking about.

Coleman didn't even start playing at Right Back until the Southampton game, he then played Right Back against Wigan, QPR, Liverpool, Fulham, Sunderland and Reading, and I can't recall there being any hint of this great attacking Right Back some people speak of.

I don't think the opposition will be losing too much sleep over the prospect of facing Seamus Coleman, in defence or attack.

Coleman and Mirallas destroyed the southampton left side. He's done well in a few other games too and he'll always be a threat. I think he's set up a few goals too. I remember him setting up a few chances against the R/S.

A few bad mistakes, which appears the norm for most full-backs these days, and people want rid. He hasn't even had half a season there yet.

You must have "forgotten" the Swansea game......

Interesting that.

I didn't count his wonderful performance at Leeds either. Everywhere, including the official site, reports Neville as playing right back in the Swansea game, although I now accept that they are incorrect.

Is this where all the hype has come from, one game against Swansea?

Not buying this whole "Jelavic isn't scoring because Fellaini is behind him" ****e. Jelavic was banging them in with Cahill behind him. Was Timmy a playmaker? No. Fellaini is playing well and scoring goals, so let's keep him up there for now.

Well I hope he doesn't get the opportunity to spend half a season at Right Back, because he isn't good enough.

He has one assist, and his performance against Southampton was nothing to write home about.

I agree.

But Jelavic has scored 5 goals in 14 appearances this season, it's not exactly a Tim Cahill situation is it?

If watching Coleman and Mirallas down the right made you think "oh gawd, I hope Coleman doesn't play for us again this season" then I actually feel a little sorry for you and hope you recover well from your recent brain injury. xxxx

We are discussing Coleman, not Mirralas.

I think Coleman is OK from an attacking perspective, but he is nothing to write home about, and his supposed attacking prowess in no way makes up for him being an absolute liability in defence.

You can carry on kidding yourself into thinking he is one of the best right-sided full backs in the premier league if it makes you feel better though.

True it's not, but I mean I think the problem is with Jelavic as apposed to Fellaini hindering him. Putting Felli back in DM for the sake of Jelavic doesn't make sense to me.

Who's kidding themselves? I've never made such a claim in my life!

Also, if Coleman is ok, what's Phil Neville? Terrible, Awful, wasteful? Or Hibbert?

We are discussing Coleman not Mirallas but to actually imply it has nothing to do with the debate is a interesting way to look at it. (I'm being polite there)

You're being ridiculously over critical of his defensive game and outright idiotic saying he has is only OK going forward.

Coleman has been a breath of fresh air at RB.

YES, we have conceded more goals, but we've had two out of form CB's (Heitinga and Distin) and a massive void left by Gibson in the centre of midfield. Hibbert is better defensively yes but if we're without Mirallas then we're forced to play Naismith there, which makes us have possibly one of the worst right hand sides in the league as far as attacking ability goes, and because they're so poor at attacking they lose possession, making us susceptible to attacks, there's absolutely zero creativity so things more often than not just break down.

We should be looking to play Coleman and Mirallas on the right as much as possible. For when we don't have Mirallas available Coleman should definitely start at RB, presumably behind Naismith. If we're up against the likes of Man U, Man City etc... then the best way to go may be Hibbert and Mirallas, at least until Coleman matures a little more.
