Thought the same at first, but at replay contact was out of box. Anyway foul as a house.

Yep. foul if the ref gives the pen, he can than bring it back to the free kick if VAR shows it, if he gives no foul he cant give a free kick. Hands tied really if he thinks its not a penalty. Maybe they need to be encouraged to if they arent sure, give the penalty and then review as the default (allowing more flexibility).

The refereeing was abysmal, he got so many things wrong. The commentary wasn’t much better. Anybody who says you should take a dive shouldn’t be allowed to commentate on TV.
