Shane Long

Red ****e been sniffing around him for a while afaik. He is in the TC mould, hasnt had that much chance with Ireland as Kevin Doyle is first choice to play the sort of role he does (same as when they were at Reading & Cork although dont think he ever actually played a senior game for Cork) but has never dissapointed when he does play. Finishing could be better but his work rate is phenominal.

Having failed to secure promotion to the Premier League with Reading on Monday, Shane Long has decided it's time to find himself a new club. The former Tipp minor hurler been targeted by Celtic, who will have to pay at least £4m to get him to Glasgow.

Yeah, I've watched him a number of times at Lansdown and he's our type of player. Good attitude but he's got quality and variety to his game. Can lead the line but likes to run from deep at times, can beat players and is hungry for goals. He's a realistic target who I think would go down a storm at Everton.

I think we lack the options to change our attack and quickly run out of Ideas. Good teams probably use about 3 different attacking formations during 90 minutes. Hopefully Coleman can play at wing-back a bit more next term (when required) and we can nab a striker who can go to the flanks or through the middle depending on the situation. We'll need a winger who can play from either side as well.

Combinations involving Cahill, Beckford and Saha, while good options have become too obvious, we need to give opposing managers something else to think about. Long is a variation of all three and can be deployed left or right of a front three if needs demand.

Everton win race for Irish striker

Reports emanating from England tonight are indicating that Everton have won the race for Reading striker Shane Long.

The 25 goal striker has been linked with a host of clubs after a fantastic season for Club and Country and now it seems he could be about to join Seamus Coleman on Merseyside as David Moyes beats off rivals bids from Newcastle, Celtic and Wolves.

Reading Chairman Sir John Madejski last week stated that Long was “World Class” and it was worth in the region of “20 million” however it is believed that a fee closer to 5 million will be enough to secure the signature of the 24 year old.

Everton are on the lookout for a striker this summer as Louis Saha continues to struggle with injury and Yakuba set to depart for Leicester leaving the not Victor Anichebe and Jermaine Beckford as the main strikers at Goodison Park.

Most likely BS but hopefully true.

LCAB confirmed this wasn't true earlier and he's not good enough for us anyway, Newcastle maybe but we're right in trying to sign Ba as he's a regular scorer in european top-flight football, Long's had one good season in the championship

Long's only 24 and improving all the time, but yes, you're spot on.

Which is why I've shook my head in disbelief a few times on this forum, as there are people who've said they'd rather have Shane Long than Demba Ba.

Didn't LCAB also say we weren't interested in N'Zogbia? Not having a go, but things change and i'm sure we are interested in a lot of the players mentioned.
Plus, Shane Duffy's dad posts on blue kipper, and said Shane Long has been talked about around Finch Farm for quite a long time

*shakes head in major disappointment*

Why the disappointment?
Are you suggesting it's not really his dad? ok then, believe what you like. He's obviously not a regular poster, but do you really think everyone would be easily convinced it was him?

Actually his dad has been on here before too.

Some reports emergeing that WHU have bid 7 mill plus add ons for Shane.

That shows you the calibre of Shane Long. Good signing for WHU, would be a very mediocre one for us. No better than what we have, and for £7m I'd rather rely on Vellios off the bench than piss it away on a bench player.

Yeah i tend to agree mate, its a massive step up for young Shane i dont know if he can manage it if im honest, not forgetting he has played in PL before and was behind Leroy Lita in the pecking order.
