Shane Duffy

Pretty sure everybody said the same about Jags and what is Bobbys system? From what I recall the CM drops deep and takes the ball off the CB, im pretty sure Duffy can pass 5 yards and if not, its something that can be worked on.

Delighted to see that Shane got 90 minutes. Onwards and upwards kiddo!!

I thought Shane had a fantastic debut for Ireland. He was dominant in the air when he had to be (he's [Poor language removed] huge!), made no stupid mistakes, was well positioned when defending crosses and his passing was absolutely fine! I don't know what game you were watching but i'd say statistically the vast vast majority of is passing was short and to feet and had a high success rate. He also didn't look slow at all. He honestly just looked beastly in stature. He's very young and more than any other position experience is what makes a truly great centre back so he'll only get better as well. I thought he put in a very assured performance and he can be very proud of himself. Well done shaneo! :D

Problem for Duffy is people will automatically compare him to Stones rather than realising he's still a very young man, who missed a long time out through injury and will progress at a different rate.

He'll have a good career - he could be a John Terry or he could be more of a Richard Dunne (in terms of how succcessful he'll ultimately be but he dopes share similar characteristics with both) but i've no doubt he'll make it as a premiership defender.

Extermely dominant in the air, he does need to improve on his distribution though

He's not good enough. That's no shame, to be the quality to play in a top team challanging for CL requires special players. He's not that, I'm sure he'll have a good career, perhaps similar in standing to Dunne. Which again is a fantastic achievement.

Anyone who gets anywhere near our first team is labeled as the next big thing and it is taken for granted they only need to be given a chance and they will be brilliant. Very few will make the step up as we'v seen.

Good luck to the lad. If I were him him I'd leave Everton and go and make a name for himself, start his career and be part of a team/club (not a loan).

I'm telling you, the guy has clearly been working on the distribution element of his game as he looked to play it short pretty much every single time he got the ball. Him and stones could make a wonderful partnership in the future. Stones is obviously exceptionally comfortable on the ball for a CB but is quite slight at the moment and wouldn't be particularly dominant in the air, while vice versa is the case for Duffy (who's probably a louder communicator on and off the pitch as well, another VITAL part of playing centre back). This contrast is essential to a successful CB pairing and i'm very excited by the prospect of these lads togging out together for Everton at some stage in the near future.

What are you basing this on exactly? How much of him have you actually watched this season or is this just a general vibe you have about the lad?

One of our own has made his international debut, congratulations are in order, huge moment of pride for him and his family and something he'll always have.fingers crossed he wins many more.
He's at the right club to progress, there's no doubt if he's good enough RM will play him.I'm going to remain positive that we won't need to go and spend millions on a new center half in a couple of years time anyway ,well done Shane lad.

I think he definitely has a future in the game, and in the Premier League at that. Not sure that it will be at Everton though. It's a tricky one because there is no point in selling him at this stage as he's probably undervalued and we're probably not in a position to loan him out to a PL side where his stock would rise. Keeping him as cover will probably stagnate him.
