"Having a flyer" and playing decently are two different things mate and I'd say his time at Yeovil was closer to the latter. I've seen a fair bit of him and he doesn't look anything above Championship level to me. Happy to be proved wrong though!

Highest rated player in the Championship mind.

If you think of Ferdinand and Vidic ar there best you had a ball player and no nonsense defender who was not do good on the ball. This could be Stones and Duffy a lack of pace can be compensated for with good reading of the game. Heitinga had no pace but his deficiencies didn't show up alongside Distin cos his pace covered for both of them just like Stones could do for Duffy. If they worked well together and Browning as well they could be our CB's for next 10 years and money could be used on keeping Midfielders and Attackers fresh.

“It’s just the amount of planning, every stat, every little thing,” he added. “I can see him going higher, but hopefully he stays at Everton.” Shane Duffy on Martinez

Opinions?

As a defender he is still relatively young and he had a huge set back in his development which would have had a mental effect every time he set foot foot on a pitch, something like that is bound to happen. From the reports of his time at Yeovil though he is a decent defender and that was in a team that was struggling at the wrong end of the league.
As far as his chances of making it at Everton a lot will depend on his ability with the ball at his feet and that seems to be a big issue but if he works hard and listens to Martinez, the coaches and our senior defenders who knows how it will go. He will need to accept that he is 4/5th choice for the next season and if he is ok with that he will get game time but only time will tell.
He seems like a good lad though and I'm sure he has a good future ahead even if it's at a lesser club than our's.

Duffy did well at Yeovil but maybe not much more than that.
I saw an interview that he did where he discussed his time at Yeovil with Martin O Neill.
O Neill had seen him play a few times and had him watched by others as well.
His summary was that he did some things well and some things badly. As you would expect from a young player.
Duffy thought it was a fair summary.
Duffy is still very much in learning mode and the season playing first team football will have been a huge boost.
I honestly believe that if he stayed at Everton next season he would be behind Jagielka,Stones and probably Distin.I think another season on loan
would be of huge benefit to him.I think his lack of real pace may ultimately cost him a place at a top team. I hope I'M WRONG.

Today's Irish Indo:

SHANE DUFFYThe big Derry lad is still waiting for a first Irish cap, with Martin O'Neill having plenty of defenders to work through, with John O'Shea partnered by Damien Delaney in the Turkish match and then by Alex Pearce in the Italian encounter.O'Shea and Delaney are now on their summer holidays and Ciaran Clark is injured, so Duffy now has an excellent chance of making his international debut four years after he was first brought into the squad by Giovanni Trapattoni.
