I can fully understand Moyes going for the tried and tested players in the starting eleven, but what I can't understand at all are his substitutions.

There's been occasions where he could have chosen to blood the youth into the first team but he's gave short term no-hopers like Hitzlsperger and Naismith the nod off the bench instead.

It's even worse for a club like Everton - the way our finances are set up we should be doing more than anyone to promote youth players to the senior set up. It should be a core part of our club. But it definitely isn't.

When you bring a 30 year-old plus journeyman midfielder in and simultaneously release prospects like Forshaw, Wallace and don't give a sniff to Barkley, it sends out a horrible message.

This seems to be more a feature of "the later Moyes period". Remember when Moyes was playing Vaughan, Anichebe, Rodwell and even Baxter, Bidwell and Wallace in the EL.

It's inconceivable now he'd do that. He's settled into a pattern of choosing from a core of 16 experienced players or so.

In general he seems to have evolved into a even more cautious manager, I remember in his first full season, him playing 433 with Rooney at 17 from the start. I'm not sure of the reason, but he seems nearly terrified of going for it and making a mistake these days.

the amount of minutes hitz has played since he's been here, would it really have hurt to save wages and give junior those 30 odd mins instead. if he ever is to become a first team regular, such experience would have been valuable to him. same goes to duffy, where he really should have at least had one of those matches. Not even on the bench yesterday, heitinga still picked ahead of him after making a mistake i think every single start he's had? if duffy is our first choice centre back in 2 years, he'll have very little experience to draw upon. Just compare that to caulker at spurs who's a similar player, similar age, been given quite a lot of game time for spurs. When he's first choice, he'll step up to the plate with ease, none of this slowly bedding in crap.

It has been a waste of a year for both duffy and barkley and they have both had plenty of opportunities to have got some game time, but i don't think they've played 90 mins each.

our defending from crosses and set pieces has cost us so much already this season, it was taking a ridiculous chance with a small squad not introducing Duffy earlier in the season. we have had passengers in midfield on a regular basis all season so even playing three centre halves with Duffy got to be worth a gamble now because if we don't try something we will finish seventh and lose in a semi. three centre halves may even have a positive attacking effect as it would give Baines, Coleman and Gibson even more freedom. problem is with Jags out this still means Heitinga playing for now whose head seems to be elsewhere but conceding every time a half decent cross goes into box is alarming for any premiership side. in long term it may be an inevitability of a midfield lacking in stature and maybe the answer is a keeper who takes more responsibility in dealing with crosses

used to wind my mate up by pretending that was what i thought the lyrics were

through the wind and the rain was yeah. used to know someone who sold it. not been around for five years or so i think

I'd rather see Duffy making mistakes which he'll learn from than watch Heitinga making mistakes which he shouldn't at his age.
Moyes woudl have hung a young player out to dry in public if they'd made one of the mistakes Heitinga's made this season.

Spot on. I was a big fan of JH and i've thought he got a rough deal off Moyes at times but he's not interested at all. It's obvious.

Is it safe to say if Moyes is still here next season then Duffy and Barkley will be requesting transfers?

I think if I was in the same situation I would be giving that some serious thought right now.
