Shane Duffy

The game against Oldham is the perfect time to give Duffy a game.He will be playing against a big strong forward from the lower divisions and should be well able to play.
It will at the same time give 35 year old Distin a rest for the weekend.
It would also show that Duffy has leapfrogged Heitinga and not before time.
However I have a feeling hat Heitinga may play midfield in this game.

Well he might find himself picked next week with Jags out.

Hopefully.

I'd like to think Duffy & Barkley really are right on the cusp of the 1st team now, with Moyes just being his usual over cautious self with playing them more. Surely with Distin & Neville both being 36(?) its just a matter of time before these 2 are regular fixtures in the 1st team

Shane's good in the air. We gave conceeded so many goals with balls into the box that should have been dealt with by someone dominating in the air. Really hope Duffy is the answer

There is an opportunity of a big finish to the season for us and i can understand why Moyes prefers experience atm.
I do tho 'think that 1 or 2 players are on the cusp and will get game time pre-season and the opportunity to break into next season's first team.
Hope so anyway.

THIS

It kills me that moyes will play heitinga ahead of him even though he is woefull at the moment and we are conceding too many goals from headers.

Shane will play when Moyes thinks its time for him to do so, ie 95th min last game of the season and leading 10 -nil.

We've got a keeper that rarely gets off his line, is quiet as a mouse and is awful at set pieces. We've also got a shizzlebag playing a good few games at CB who wont even head the ball and is getting lashed everywhere game after game.

Moyes is a tit for not picking Shane over Heitinga. He's big aerially dominant, listens to his CB partner and I imagine he's hungry as feck to get a chance.

It's a wasted season for him. 10 games, and I can see the 10 he could have had, would have had him in a position to properly challenge Distin for a start next year.

As it stands he'll have to go straight in when Distins legs go.

I was a massive fan of heitinga's last season, thought he was our best CB by a mile, but this year he hasn't been at it at all, and its the biggest example yet of Moyes infuriating favouritism towards experience, even when all other factors point towards picking the younger player

I'd rather see Duffy making mistakes which he'll learn from than watch Heitinga making mistakes which he shouldn't at his age.
Moyes woudl have hung a young player out to dry in public if they'd made one of the mistakes Heitinga's made this season.

This seems to be more a feature of "the later Moyes period". Remember when Moyes was playing Vaughan, Anichebe, Rodwell and even Baxter, Bidwell and Wallace in the EL.

It's inconceivable now he'd do that. He's settled into a pattern of choosing from a core of 16 experienced players or so.
