Launching Nukes Eh???

I think he needs to have a season on loan in the Championship for us to know for definite. He's got enough about his game to make a career at a good level though. Just attacking the ball the way he does at set pieces is worth a career in the championship.

You gotta be careful when using words like 5hit because people take you literaly. When i say 5hit i normally mean not good enough for Everton. Hes a pro footballer, so obviously theres some ability there.

I agree tbh, i want us to send him on a full year loan to a championship side he will get regular football for. Id like him to do really well so we can see him properly and get a good fee for him.

Dont think he will ever be a first team regular for everton though. Just dont see enough in him

Should go out on loan but I can't see him being sold.

Distin and Hibbert are going to call it quits in the next yr or so.. Jags and Alcaraz are both 30+.
Still very young for a CB.

Well there doesn't appear to be a host of top championship clubs beating the door down to loan him. We're now onto a second manager who doesn't involve him in the first team...? And He's not been fast tracked to a poor ireland CB contingent.

Alot here just presume if we have a young player who gets anywhere near the first team he must be the next super star and were blind not getting them a run in the first team...it's quite rediculous really!

And yes I'd agree with above, what started off as 3 good performances, went to 3 MOM performances, to 3 performances of the season, before 3 world class performances....haha, very funny

Good luck to the lad, he's got a career in football no doubt. At this level tho, I very much doubt it.

Can't believe how many people are writing the lad off, he's what 21? Ossie was 24 before he broke into the first team. Duffy needs a season or two out on loan to get experience, bar Stones our centre backs are the wrong side of thirty so will need replacing over the next couple of seasons.

Football has changed a lot in recent years. Thirty years ago Duffy would probably be a regular in the team by now as a tough uncompromising centre half. However, the game is all about speed, reactions, judgement and athleticism , traits you would not automatically associate with Shane Duffy.

However a season of playing first team football at a good championship level would tell us a lot more about him,we might be pleasantly surprised. After all he is still probably five or six years off reaching his peak.

I can't say for sure. The only times I've seen him play he was good enough. Not the next baresi, just a decent defender and big aerial threat.

Apparently the problem is pace and positioning. You can work on one but the other you're goosed.

I wonder if Mustafi's playing these days BTW?

That's an exeedingly cynical viewpoint of our fan base mate

Considering that only 2 or 3 players tend to get a chance to begin with, and also considering the fact that Hibbert, Osman, Rooney and Barkley all came from the youth set up and did well for themselves, I think supporters have every right to expect that a player getting a chance in the competive first team of a Premier League side must have something to offer.

They would also then be entitled to wonder why he isn't getting a chance, especially when he plays in a role where last year Jags was hurt and Heitinga was playing rubbish, also taking into account that he aquited himself well when he had received opportunities in the past

...clearly not high up in DM pecking order, it will be interesting if RM has a different view. I suspect not because Duffy might not fit with his requirement for skilful type defenders. Talent of a midfielder like Barklay is a more obvious and precious commodity. Centre backs are hardly ten a penny, but their skill set is different and their potential is often only realised later in their careers.
