Shane Duffy again.

Decent move for him to Celtic, well below par in the recent internationals against poor opposition.

He's never really kicked on as a player since leaving us, which moves to Brighton and now Celtic would suggest.

Hopefully he plays a hand in ensuring that Slippy doesn't win anything up there.

He went down a league and then got promoted to the Premier League with Brighton and proved beyond a shadow of any doubt that he was good enough to play in the top division

Potter is a Martinez like figure who wants defenders doing stepovers, so he's gone out on loan to his boyhood team for a season to try and help them win ten in a row

Wouldn't shock me if he's back in the Premier League next season

He retweeted someone else's message, he didn't get an armalite rifle and pick off British squaddies from the Divis Flats.

Good goal by Shane today.
He called Martin McGuinness a "hero". Not judging him btw as anyone that grew up in the aftermath of what happened in Derry will likely have been affected in some way. I’ve been fortunate in that I’ve largely been sheltered from the bigotry of this backward manufactured place so take a more neutral stance, although when it comes to the like of the Orange Order, a knuckle dragging embarrassment, they deserve to be mocked mercilessly.

Regarding his ability, he’s not as limited as the statuesque Keane so he’d have done better than him here. He’s a solid pro nothing more.

I know you regard him extremely highly and that's fair enough.

Maybe he will and best of luck to him if he is, it definitely won't be with a team at the top end of the table.

His support for the IRA was pretty deplorable, at least now he's at a club that welcomes it.
MG I don't believe that Shane played in the RBJ with any political agenda. What went on in Derry while he was growing up is something completely different to anything that you or I experienced. Thank God we now have peace and long may that continue.

Seen some mad stuff today, James Rodriguez in an Everton shirt, runners in midfield, a victory away to a ''top six'' side and maddest of all a full on defense force for Shane Duffy lol

The thing is, for lots of poeple in the Republican commuity he is a hero. He is someone who helped give them some protection ans safety when they were being whacked left right and centre with very little riposte.

In the North they are the dominant force amongst nationalists, and in the South they just won the popular vote as well. It should hardly come as a surprise that people see him as a hero. We might not like it, but there's clearly a lot of people who think it.

I remember his dad posting, he was always a lovely fella (unfortunately no longerwith us) and Duffy was a level headed guy who still speaks well of Everton. Thats enough for me.

This was from The Athletic (Consider subscribing, it's Everton coverage is good)

Duffy is a genuine Celtic fan. It’s not a headline-grabbing signing hook enabled by cynical references to club legends like Tommy Burns and Danny McGrain to win fans’ support.

A lifelong fan of the club growing up in Derry, he travelled over on the ferry from Northern Ireland with his dad Brian to watch his first Celtic game when he was nine, during the Martin O’Neill years. Brian Duffy passed away three months ago, aged 53, and his son has stated that his decision to move to Celtic at this time, at the expense of Premier League sides such as West Ham United and West Bromwich Albion, was partly motivated by him wanting to do his dad proud in playing for their club.

“I was emotional when (the Celtic deal) got done because he was everything to me with my football,” Duffy said last week. “He won’t be at my first Celtic match. So I’ll be emotional when I finally get to play. I will just do it for him.”
