I think you are confusing sex and gender. Sex is what you are born as based on your reproductive organs. Gender is how you choose to identify or can refer to social roles based on your sex.

I am not a great fan of the extent that sexist terms have gotten to , especially the person who was identified on their birth certificate as female but felt that that was not correct although didn't see their self as a male either so wanted to be known as IT.

You can understand why like.
