That sounds like a load of arsing around really.

Surely i'm achieving the same thing by playing a video in VLC player on my comp but running an HDMI lead from my comp to my TV and watching it on that?

I suppose so.

Means you can't use the laptop though, plus it's whirring away - and if it's anything like mine, it sounds like an asthmatic elephant.

Plus you can't build a case for your laptop out of Lego can you? I did for my Raspberry Pi. LEGO.

I have one of these attached so I can just lie back and watch stuff while browsing on the laptop.

Its a desktop but yeah it does mean i can't actually use it for anything else whilst streaming something, but i'm watching something so don't need to surf por.............the net at the same time.

And aren't raspberry pis for children?

That's what they were intended for, but then who wouldn't want a credit card sized computer for £20?

I usually end up watching a film, browsing GOT on the laptop and messing with my phone, because I'm a massive idiot.

I cba contributing to this thread as the obvious lack of MB internets stops me from

a) downloading
b) streaming

but western digital live will do it, or as Heat says Rasperry Pi with the wi-fi dongle streaming, there is also loads of cheap android devices on amazon that will do it with the hackery needed for the Pi & XMBC which is overrate IMHO and very glitzy for essentially a media broker.

What's over rated the Pi or XBMC?

The software is free and open source and a Pi is about £25 or something. AppleTV is the "CBA JUST TAKE MY MONEY" option though.

XMBC - as for AppleTV what a useless pile of sh*t that is.

Mag250 iptv, if you want to stream direct to tv from the net and put you hard drive in and you can record it has a build in media player and has loads of other uses as well. if you just want to record tv and use a box to play your hard drive files, and you have a sat dish there are other ways
