Tbh it would have been a bit embarassing putting this team on the same pedestal as the 66 team. They had at least 5/6 world class players, this side had at most 1 and even that’s dubious. That team beat Argentina, Portugal and Germany to win it, this team had played Colombia Sweden and Croatia.

England's central midfield options were horrible. I don't think Henderson or Dier are bad players but they are the sorts to complement more progressive players. I.e. the sort England don't possess. Okay, Loftus-Cheek may develop into that player, but I don't think he is now. Other option? Delph. We were always going to get done by any form of quality.

On the plus side - Spurs will be knackered for next season, Courtois is too tall so Chelsea are out of contention, Lukaku will be trying to move to replace Ronaldo at Real, Aguero has been cursed and/or eaten by Maradona, Arsenal doesn't really exist judging from their players at the WC, and Jordan Henderson will still be Jordan Henderson.
