Look out, it's another music thread!

The aim of the game is to pick some tracks which best represent why you love a band, and post them here. Hopefully you'll convince some GOT-ers of their worth, and maybe even make a few new fans for your favourite artists (y)

The rules:

1.) You can post up to 3 tracks per band. Preferably using embedded youtube links for handiness.
2.) You can pick one album per artist as a recommended starting point for interested parties.
3.) You must tell us what your entry is all about, and why they're worth listening to!

I'm going to go for... hmmm...

Band: Mew.

Why they're awesome: They're a really innovative and energetic Danish outfit that make fun music with a lot of replay value. You'd really never guess there's only 3 members in the band, because they produce a really large and complex array of sounds. As an aside, they also have some of the weirdest/campest/most brilliant artwork I've ever seen.

Recommended starting point: "No More Stories..."

I hope you give them a listen -- Jdawg aside, as he's way ahead of the curve on this one!!

I would say Take That but you'd probably all hate me for ever. And so...

Band: Breaking Benjamin

Reasons: Ben (Lead singer) actually has a really good voice, probably one of the best vocal range compared to similar lead vocalists. While having a typical 'rock' sound to their songs, their acoustic versions are amazing and so can be enjoyed by people who don't really like heavy music. Ben Burley is a beautiful, beautiful man.

I think I've posted before, but liking some of the stuff from Sleigh Bells, first heard one of their songs on a commercial so got into a few more:

Im gonna do:

Band: Kuato

Why they're awesome: They are a post-rock/doom metal/experimental instrumental band that is really good. They have good drumming and interesting sounds. In the song "Nazi Synthesizers"(below), the guitarist screams into his pickup at the end of the song to create an cool sound. They have only released two EP's so far, the first called "EP" and the other called "Winter EP". There are only 5 songs on them combined. You can download them for free on their website by clicking on the link above.

Recommended starting point: "EP"

I just wanted to do a band I was sure no one had ever heard of so I chose this one. I'll probably do Rush or something later.

I've listened to both of the first 2 shouts so far....but I'm not going to give you my 100,000 pounds yet....therefore I'm out ;-)

But I will keep tabs on them both.....I'm a good lad like that....Elong just seen yours, top work. I like already

Ok, I could pick a million bands, but here's a little unknown band I guess

Los Campesinos!

3 album down so far, uber camp and energetic live shows have made them a favourite of mine. That's not even mentioning the lyrics. I'm a music listener who thinks a song is good by how everything sounds other than the lyrics. Imagine could be telling me Steve Gerrard is a legend for all I know.....know what I mean? I like a song because of the tune first, lyrics second....

Anyway, their lyrics are usually about football or sex in a bathroom. Therefore a winner. They don't really do music video's, so I have listed any, but give these a listen, see what you think. My 3 favourite songs from the Romance is Boring album

Probably my favourite artist is Elliott Smith - eagle eyed members might already have noticed this - it's almost impossible for me to pick a starting point though.
He is lyrically incredible. Never cliched, always emotive and often poetic with understated, brilliant guitar. He wrote some of his well known songs aged 17 (Condor Avenue) which is just ridiculous...

Anyways, if you like lyrical, emotive, storytelling in your songwriting and you haven't already fallen in love with Elliott Smith then listen to the following songs. You might just have a new romance.

I'd recommend his album Either/Or for first timers, but you have lots of songs to enjoy.

Notable others; King's Crossing, Roman Candle, Between the bars....

"Tell 'Em" is AWESOME. That's been on my ipod for a while. Nice call.

Perfect write up. Not sure I would recommend No More Stories Told Today as a starting point though...small quibble.

Band - Beady Eye

Why they're awesome - They were born in the ashes of the swaggering awesome-ness that was Oasis. Yeah, there's no Noel, but Liam, Gem Archer and Andy Bell are seriously underrated song writers, and the latter two are very good guitarists as well. Their debut album, 'Different Gear, Still Speeding' (which I personally think is a great name), comes out on Monday and has been getting some very positive reviews in the press. They've said there will be no Oasis songs played at their gigs, which I'm happy about. Beady Eye are a new band, and the material they've put out so far has been excellent. Whilst inevitbaly comparisons will be drawn to Oasis (I mean, it's hard not to sound Oasis-y when Liam Gallagher is the lead singer), their music sounds fresh and exciting. I defy anyone to listen to 'Bring the Light' and tell me that they're Oasis mk II. Will Oasis ever reunite? I have no idea, I'm not the oracula FFS (that's lcab bab-eh!), but if Beady Eye maintain the standard they've set themselves, it doesn't matter. Oasis is dead, long live BEADY EYE.

Ok I'm gonna do Bloc Party since Mew is taken.

Band: Bloc Party

Why they're awesome: Basically their influences are everything that has been good about music since the 80's. That's important. It's not good being talented if you think Bon Jovi was/is great. Secondly, they are very versatile. They can do straight up rock/punk, mix it with beautiful, interesting slow songs, and then slide into electronica effortlessly. Very few bands outside of Radiohead can really pull this off.

Recommended starting point: The beginning. One of the great debut albums in recent memory, maybe of all time..."Silent Alarm". Strong from start to finish, no filler all killer.

Listen to "Banquet (below). I dare you to get it out of your head. I dare you.

My favorite track from their second album "A Weekend In The City"

A brilliant example of Bloc Party's electronica/dance side. Addicting. If I was in a club that played this, my head my explode with joy.

It's their most energetic and fun album, imo. It's probably more instantly gratifying as well. That's why I picked it.

I'd say Frengers is possibly their best work. Maybe And the Glass Kites... to be honest those 3 are pretty close.

I like Jdawg. Very much. :)

Was tempting to do a Radiohead one, but figured that they're way too well known for a thread like this, love the new sounds I'm picking up from this thread guys!
