Nah I love this bit, we'll get beat against Ipswich and he'll go "not my fault, I've only had the lads back from international duty for 2 days so I'm not sure what type of tactics your expecting me to work on in that time".
You mean if we get beat by Ipswich, let’s see what score that game is before we start making comments about losing the match!

That's 8.

I'd argue we have a better playing squad than Fulham, but they seem to get more out of there players

In my opinion Fulham’s squad is far better than ours. They have multiple attacking options it’s strength in depth and genuine quality like Smith Rowe Pereira Reiss Nelson Muniz.

We sold them Iwobi for 20 mill and he is on their bench yet he was our only stacking wide player worth any money. Perhaps only Ndiaye makes their squad in attacking wide positions, Harrison McNeil Lindstrom certainly don’t. They’ve got much better fullbacks than us as well, more depth in striker position, and better midfielders on the ball.

I’ve said sin the last we’re somewhere from 12-16. I personally think 13th as I’d probably rather have Palace’s squad than ours as it’s deeper but that’s touch and go.

Either way we’re discussing 13th, 12th, 11th perhaps at an absolute push.

I don’t see any independent football commentator pundit or journalist having this as a top ten squad. No depth in striking position, no creativity in midfield, one decent full back. Hardly any quality options in any positions except Kane centre mid now but even they are players other PL teams didn’t want.

The sky six, Villa, Newcastle, West Ham, Brighton - there’s your top ten quality wise before even arguing about the others. If anyone thinks we have a better squad than any of those teams they need their head checking.

But your argument is historical. It’s about how he was given a bottom half squad so he has to play this style etc.

But last season, his style took us on a massive winless run. 1 win in that run and we finish top half.

So last season, we arguably could have had a top half squad with a better manager/style/tactics.

So coming into this season, we have what is essentially a top half squad. (We were literally 1 point off the top half).

So that argument about needing this style doesn’t fit anymore. As the quality for top half is quite clearly there.

Regardless of what’s going on this season and other squads. Because we don’t yet know the standard of the other squads, but it’s easy to suggest the 8 teams that were worse than us and chuck palace into that. We even tied with Brighton last season and they were media darlings who were doing amazing.

It’s fairly easy to put the quality of squads in some sort of order at the start of the season to asses whether a club has over or under achieved. There’s no way you have our squad in the top ten before a ball has been kicked this season quality wise. No way.

Top 10 seems like quite a stretch - even with our first choice players all available.

It would be more likely playing the sort of low-posession, anti-football that we are now.

Or do we have people believing we 'just need to take the handbrake off' like the Ingerlund fans ?

The squad quality of probably the bottom 11/12 from last season will be roughly the same as it was, even if they have bought players. It’s all pretty poor compared to the teams in the top 6/8.

We should not be coming into a season after finishing 1 point off 10th thinking we can’t get 10th.

Reiss Nelson and Muniz don't get in our team.

I like Perreira, but his numbers are no better than McNeil or Doucoure despite him looking easier on the eye.

Fulham have better fullback than us (who doesn't) but we are better player for player than them everywhere else on the pitch.
Iwobi has been on the bench 3 times for Fulham since he signed (2 being his first 2 games) and not missed a game apart from the Afcon, so i dont know were him being a sub has come from

Calvert Lewin scores more goals at both Fulham & Palace than he would at us, purely based on the coach.

Just answer the question.

If you ranked the quality of all squads in the league where do you think Everton this season is before a ball is kicked. Not where Sean Dyche took them to last season or where other managers might take x. Just in terms of ranking pure squad quality whereabouts 1-20 does this squad sit?

"Bite ye hand off for 17th lad"

I still shake my head in disbelief when i read our fans say this before a ball is kicked.

We’ll have to disagree on this. I’m not sure if you offered Fulham fans the opportunity to swap their entire squad for ours that even a single one would take it. I do think there’d be quite a few Everton fans though who would.

We’ve got some better players in a few positions in the first team but they’ve got a lot more depth than us which tells over a season.

I would put this squad wise about 10-11th
A good manager with the squad could get you to 8th-9th
The current manager will having floating between 18th and 14th all season.

10th?

Which of these teams would swap their squad for ours?

Man City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs, United, Villa, Newcastle, Brighton, West Ham.

The weakest of that group in West Ham have a forward line of Kudus Paqueta Bowen Summerville Fullkrug Ings Antonio

You are delusional if you think we have the 10th best squad on paper in this league.

I’d probably say 9-12th. I’ve been saying since Carlo left that we have better quality than people make out but keep making awful manager choices (by only having a shortlist of 1/2 crap managers).

But in return to you, why do you think Dyche still needs to play this style when he hasn’t just inherited a bottom half team anymore but actually has a team that was clearly capable of top 10 just last season?

Palace, Forest surely on the same level I think. I see Fulham as slightly better on paper and better coached.

In comparison of the league the squad should be around last season.
