Neiler

Player Valuation: £100m
Impressed me during preseason and for the U21s hadnt realised he was out since America - hadnt realised he was out to be honest with a (snigger) infected blister- wonder will he get many opurtunites in the squad.

Right-back Seamus Coleman has been named in the Republic of Ireland Under 21 squad for next month's qualifying matches against Georgia and Switzerland.

Coleman is expected to return to full training for Everton this Friday, having been sidelined with an infected blister since the pre-season tour of America.

Also included in the squad is former reserve team player Darren Dennehy.

I'm sure I heard someone say that if there weren't a doctor on the USA trip, he might never have played again.

Look forward to seeing more of him

I wonder where he fits in to the pecking order for Left back cover, ahead or behind Distin seeing as right back is sewn up - i guess Neill has played at LB too in the past.

I want to see Hibbert on the left, just for a laugh.

Probably be behind Distan and Neill, so I cant see him getting a run out in the forseeabl future:(

You never know mate would love to see some of the young lads get a chance in the Europa if we can qualify out of the group early. Pity there arent many Leauge sides left in the Carling.

So would I to be honest. They aint getting out in the Carling cup, cause of spurs. How come City get S****horpe and we get tottenham?

Seamus is a young boy. He is learning play from the mentor Hibbert. In this way he will be great. He is young and needs time to mature.

True mate as defenders go hes still has time on his side, anyone else hear Moyes's comments yesterday in reference to Rodwell - said like Jack we had top quality players breaking through.

He's absolutely ******* rapid when he gets going. Saw him a once or twice in pre-season & he looked handy, it may be a while before he starts battling for a 1st team place but he's got time on his hands & he does seem to have potential so I'm looking forward to seeing how he progresses

Seamus was one of the best prospects in the league of Ireland, I'm just glad that it was us that took a chance on him. He is best when running at defenders, he has very quick feet and created a lot of goals for Sligo when he was there.

Coleman on his toes after freak injury

IRELAND under-21 defender Séamus Coleman revealed yesterday a freak mishap almost resulted in the loss of the big toe on his right foot during the summer. When a blister on the toe became infected the problem quickly escalated to the point where the Everton player’s career might have been ended.

“I was looking forward to getting a good pre-season under my belt,” said the former Sligo Rovers right back who is in Dublin for tomorrow’s under-21 European Championship qualifier against Georgia, “and I got the strangest injury ever. I got a blister and it just got infected on me. It was quite serious actually – the infection went to the bone and I could have lost my toe.”

The club were on tour in America and an immediate operation was required. Coleman has since made a good recovery and returned to reserve team action for the Merseysiders on Tuesday night against Manchester United.
