Seamus Coleman - 8

Impossible to overstate the importance of Coleman's experience on a night when any lapses in concentration could have killed the World Cup dream. He picked his moments to play out of tight spaces and trigger counters, while also avoiding unnecessary risks when Portugal turned the screw. Rock solid

Jake O'Brien - 8

The Everton man looked right at home in a defence that was incredibly committed to keeping a clean sheet. His aerial prowess is obvious, but O'Brien settled Ireland down many times with some smart passes and coolness on the ball.

It would certainly seem to me like we are paying him to get fit to play for Ireland in the hope that he can make the World Cup. If they get knocked out in the qualifiers I wouldn’t even be surprised to see him retire mid season if I’m honest.

Eh just realised Nathan Collins was the captain instead of Seamus despite both starting, when did this happen?!
Away to Armenia in September I think, Séamus was injured - not even on the bench.

Séamus played 86' away to Portugal - they scored after he went off and 63' v Armenia at home.

Maybe the manager didn't want to change things with Séamus coming back to fitness. I know he wouldn't have minded as he has no big ego, unlike certain other Muppets who think the world revolves around them.

This is up there with the most childish posts I have never read on this forum, what so of sad individual would come up with the idea that a Premier League club would pay a player to only play for his national team. Even if there was an iota of truth in this it wouldn’t be the fault of the player it would be down to the club. Have you ever conceived of the idea that Seamus Coleman doesn’t pick either the Everton side or the Ireland side. He can only play if selected, Ireland are picking him, Everton aren’t. You are bad mouthing one of the greatest servants this club has ever had, he can’t help being past his best but if selected to play he will give everything he has for the shirt. If we could put eleven players on the pitch with the commitment of Seamus Coleman we would be winning things. There are plenty of players in our current squad who deserve the ridicule of the fans but you decide to turn on someone who has stuck with the club when his ability could have taken him to a trophy winning side. Maybe you could learn a bit about loyalty from Seamus Coleman.

No mate, Everton are just paying and training a player for Ireland, and the player in question refuses to play for the club and that's the reason Moyes doesn't have him RB.

Can you imagine inhabiting the mind that concocts that?!

Morning mate.

Moyes wants a team of giants, id say is the reason, he likes a settled back four and not sure Coleman can give 90 every week or give it and not risk injury.

He still has the ability as he showed last night, but is smaller concentrated, targeted, bursts.........

Should be good for the World Cup though.

Good of Everton to keep him fit for that.

He could look elsewhere mate, id say there will be a lot of interest in him come the end of the season from Saudi and the States.

Be interesting to see how the club manage it, given how highly esteemed he is amongst the fanbase.

Saudi teams would want 37-year old Seamus Coleman?

I know you Irish are incredibly biased but this is amazing.
