2022/23 Seamus Coleman

Seamus Coleman is still a decent player, but he'll need to be used wisely. He can't be expected to make surging attacking runs up and down the right flank supporting our forwards and then get back defending in every game he plays. Obviously, his mind will tell him he can, but his body will soon let him know that it's not possible.

The situation is not an ideal one for us but that's not the fault of the player, which is something that needs to be considered by the 'Booo Boys/Girls' before they start kicking off on him. Coleman should now be our third-choice Right-Back, not the main backup to Patterson, and that is on the Club and their inability to prioritise transfers accordingly over the years.

What will Nathan Patterson miss? About six games or so? No doubt Frank Lampard will use Mason Holgate at times in order to give Seamus Coleman a break.

He is a liability mate.
Has been since Salah tormented him couple of seasons back.
It's time we moved on.

The manager will now be forced to pick him and it may be the best for the team as we need his experience and leadership more than ever now.

Patterson is still a baby at this level and imo not able to cope with a team struggling as badly as we are.

If we had cash I'd go for Aarons or Juranovic.

Maybe we can take a look at Stanley Mills as a RWB? I'd play him in the United game and see how he does.
Agreed. Throw Mills in for the cup game. Perfect chance to try a couple of youngsters. Think they’d freshen the team up without the same pressure and lack of confidence some of the rest of the team are showing. I’d play Price for the same reason.

He looks all right in his half hour cameos when he can keep up with the pace of tiring players. But as shown last season, he can’t keep up with it from the start game after game. Which is completely normal due to his age.

He may be a class act off the pitch, and I’ve always been a fan, but ultimately, his game is littered with as many mistakes as some of our other players who get lots of grief for it.

To make it work, we are going to have to play defensively to reduce the expectation on him.

We should be looking for a number 1 RB. Not a deputy. How can we have a deputy to a player who hasn't established himself? It's absurd.

As for Coleman: we'll get the usual 100% from him and we can always bank on that.

Bottom line is that we need a new RB.

This is why I said he needs to be used wisely. But it's not like Coleman got old overnight, we've needed a top notch Right-Back for years and the club has failed to bring one in.

There is nothing to move on from, Coleman is who we have to step in, and we have him because our Club failed to address the Right-Back position over many seasons. That's not the fault of the player, it's the fault of Everton.

Seamus was considered done by his peers the day Salah openly mocked him the post-match interview.
Sentimentaly hanging onto players(much as we previously regard them) are way past their best is part of why we're in this sorry mess.

Dave, I never mentioned bringing in a deputy.
Spot on, Seamus Coleman will always give us 100% but, as much as I love the guy, his 100% is not going to cut it in situations like the one we find ourselves in now. We needed (need) a decent seasoned Premier League standard RB that Patterson (or whoever) could have been an 'understudy' to, with Coleman either being 3rd choice, part of our backroom staff, or simply no longer with Everton at all.

It's hard to argue with this.
