Represents what the club stands for more than everyone else combined, including Ferguson. pound for pound probably the best value player we have ever had, gets a horror injury and now because he is starting to decline the wolf pack is snapping at his heels!
This lad is the one player we should hang onto and move onto the back room staff, sack all the others but this guy should be the model we want all our kids to aspire to!
I slightly disagree, but let me explain why. I totally agree that Seamus is a great character and is rightfully our club captain; he's also been a brilliant servant.
Some of the criticism on here and on other platforms is totally unfair, and as I mentioned earlier we have a section of our fan base who can't take the sensible line.
Nevertheless, I do think that we need to be realistic about his current abilities and, to an extent, be more ruthless in our long-term decision making process.
For me, the days of giving players lucrative final year contracts because they're a great blue etc, need to be restrained. Are they good enough? Can we get better?
If we really want to push on, we need to have players who are pushing at the highest level of the game, and I no longer think Seamus does that consistently.
I'm not advocating treating him like a pariah and forcing him out of the club, but we should be looking for a replacement / improvement in the foreseeable future.
If the right offer comes in for Seamus, I would consider it. We really can't afford to have retain players, who are declining, simply because of sentiment.
It's the same with the coaching staff: if he's a good coach then keep him - that's brilliant - as he will offer that loyalty and fight too. If he isn't, don't consider it.
Personally, I am fed up with the club giving ex-players contracts or other positions because they're ex-players. I want the best and that's how the top clubs thrive!
