I can only think how I´d feel if I did that to someone when I go out to play next weekend. Son hasn´t gone to do him, he´s put in what would usually be an innocuous challenge. Just look at the reaction of the lad, he was in bits.
Son did go in to do him though. I think that’s quite obvious. Maybe not snap his leg, but went in with the intention of hurting Gomes as “revenge”.

100% this.
Got done moments before... the lunge was not to win the ball, it was solely to go and get Gomes who did him before.

did he go in to it, with the intention of breaking his leg? No, no way, but did he go in with full intention of fouling him, and that for me, makes him solely responsible, for a disgusting challenge.

it was a tackle designed to bring him down and stop the attack, plus he did want a bit of needle for the previous altercation. It wasn’t anywhere near as bad as Nolan on Anichebe, or any other truly bad challenge. I think a red is harsh and wrong. I know Gomes has a horror injury, but if this is a red for that challenge then it’s the beginning of the end for footy as a contact sport.

Nice Everton. Ever so nice.

Not won a tin in 20 odd years. Inoffensive, nice Everton.

Comments like this really baffle me. Coleman going into the Spurs dressing room to console a player after accidentally breaking another players leg isn't being inoffensive, it's being human.

Should we scrap Everton In The Community too? The stuff they do is way too nice.

I agree people in the game saying yellow card, I watched Bertrand get a straight red for going for a challenge were he went for the ball caught a player stretching and didn’t go through him and the same pundits saying that’s a red. I’m beside myself. He obviously didn’t want that to happen granted but he had no intention of playing the ball and the challenge was above the ankle. There was definitely a case for a red.

there are about 5 challenges a game where there is no intention to play the ball. Man City do it pretty much on every attack against them. The only case for the red is that Gomes has obliterated his ankle. Judicial decisions through backwards induction is not correct. By that standard when Djibril Cisse broke his leg on the grass (back in the day for the RS) the last challenge should also have been a red because it lead to him breaking his leg. It was a yellow card challenge.

Coleman showed his maturity as a human being to go and console Son. He only meant to bring him down, not put his career in jeopardy. Anyone who’s played football as an adult has done exactly this tackle at some point every season they played

It was a trip not a challenge.

We disagree with how accidental it was. And ergo disagree on how Son should be treated.

Yeah m8 scrap the lot. Daft, obtuse comment.

Was a red because he in endangered a fellow player that’s the rule. Obviously son wasn’t expecting what would happen but was stupid, because he got a little slap in the face.

Every tackle endangers a player. Heading a ball endangers a player. Running around for 90 mins has lead to people dropping dead because of heart murmurs so that endangers a player.

Slapping a player in the face endangers a player.

where do you want to draw the line?

This is not about nice Everton, or point scoring. This about human decency.

"Pochettino did, however, praise Everton’s players for their reaction and their support for the distraught Son – particularly club captain Seamus Coleman, who was out for a year after suffering a similarly-horrific double-fracture of his lower leg in March 2017.

“The players from Everton were fantastic. The captain came to the dressing room to console Son,” said the Argentinian.

“I want to say thank you to the players and Coleman, who came in on behalf of the squad of Everton.” Press Associaiton

Yeah I can’t abide by that. Son went out to put Gomes and Yerry Mina when he went for him on the floor. He doesn’t do that and he doesn’t end up giving a bloke a limb threatening injury. I know the way the worlds gone but putting on the waterworks and telling everyone how bad you feel doesn’t make you the victim and warrant a load of people supporting you and ignoring the fact that you got yourself into that position by being a tit. Actions have consequences and that is exactly what Son got.
