I understand that(most people do) Scottish clubs are at a total disadvantage financially (including Rangers and Celtic) compared to English and most other European leagues, but the standard thing to do (like yourself) is to dismiss Scottish teams as pub league or something similar without really knowing anything about the teams or league etc.
Rangers and celtic could probably cope with the majority of EPL teams as things stand at the moment but with similar access to sponsorship/TV money that English clubs have they would be challenging to win it within a few years.

Yes Laudo don't get me wrong the finances are totally the reason, I'm pretty sure with their large fan bases they would easily compete in the premier league given time.

Manchester United are the best supported team in the premier league and possibly financially too although City have huge oil wealth and are virtually run by a middle East oil state, but not many would think United serious contenders for the title.

I do think Celtic and Rangers are huge clubs and massive domestically speaking, but competing in a league were they are not so much a big fish in a small pond but a puddle. Nevertheless if they switched to England they would have the potential to be premier League teams but I think they're at best relegation fodder equivalents atm. Tbf that applies far more to Celtic than Rangers right now

(I don't think Celtic's current team are as good as Norwich who are rock bottom tbh and probably would struggle in the championship too.)

Would love them to have the opportunity (although unlikely) as from what I've seen from the bottom half teams in the EPL there isn't a lot to be worried about tbh,
Go to Ibrox every other week and come down to see Everton a couple of times a year and I'm not saying there isn't a gulf in the difference in quality in the two leagues but honestly don't think Rangers and Celtic would struggle to compete in the EPL.

Fair enough, I watch the old firm on TV most weeks but would have to disagree in Celtic's case. Rangers would possibly survive but I don't think Celtic would even challenge for promotion from the championship but be midtable championship at best.

We'll never be able to test it out anyhow so it'll remain just a matter of personal judgement and opinion.

The common misconception is that Rangers and Celtic would struggle against average EPL sides if they played in that league. Sure, their current teams might.

But if Rangers and Celtic were in the EPL they would both be giants aided by the finances of playing in such a league.

That's pretty much identical to what we've been saying. I don't think there's any doubt their current teams would struggle and imo Celtic would be nowhere near the prem but halfway up the championship at best.

In time with access to the financial rewards they would have a far better chance but Man United are currently proving that being the best supported or financially backed guarantees nothing including being a 'giant'.

Newcastle a one club city with fanatical support, a big stadium and 50,000 plus every week have won nothing at all since 1968 and been relegated several times recently.

Celtic are a shambles at the minute. Basically handing a very average Newco the title already.

Hit the bar twice in the last 10 minutes yesterday but home against Dundee United it should have already been 3/4 nil.

Aye, but they did get away with a stonewall penalty and redcard just after Utd made it 1-1 remember?

A combination of the TV money along with the increase in sponsorship opportunities would probably allow them to both build up some decent squads so long as the money was spent wisely
