I know what you mean Al, but I think Clarke would be a bit more forceful at putting things in place behind the scenes to attract the better players into playing and giving more to their national team

....some will say a manager is only as good as his players and Clarke will only have the same pool to select from as his predecessors, but you can make sure the team is well organised and difficult to beat, a good coach can also inspire his team and make them competitive.

Can't see Clarke doing much though. Not an easy job at all.

He'll have to inspire the squad with his charisma. I don't think they're capable of improving their skills or abilities.

Not only is it a small pool to pick from, many have chosen not to be considered, Snodgrass, Fletcher, Cairney, Ritchie if I remember - I think playing on an artificial pitch was part of the reason but not the only ones. There are some deep rooted problems in Scottish football and the desire and pride in being selected for the National side appears variable, especially for many playing outside of Scotland. I can’t see Clarke bridging a widening gap and making them competitive enough to grab say a World Cup Finals place. Unless they play England, even the fans dont turn up anymore. Can’t say I blame them.

Tierney is a cracking player, but he's been carrying an injury for most of the season, and hasn't played too often. Robertson has been outstanding for Liverpool. It would be mental to take the captaincy away from the player who is currently the best in the squad.
