Interesting article here by Henry Winter on Scott Gemmill and what he's up to now.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...s-to-escape-from-shadow-of-father-Archie.html

He's 43 now, and said to be a very promising young coach. He's just coached Scotland U17s to beat Germany U17s in the Championships in Malta.

Some interesting stuff in here, how he moved to Barcelona with his wife, specifically to try to learn how they coach players. He's mates with Mauricio Pochettino and David Weir, amongst others.

...that drag back at St James park for Super Kev Campbell to go on and score in the first minute was ACE.

Besides that, he was utterly poo.

I'm not being funny, but that article just smacks of someone trying to emerge from his dad's shadow, and trying to do well in coaching to prove something to his dad because he could never do it as a player. I also don't think he actually believes what he says...almost like he is trying to convince himself. Maybe I'm wrong. I think the article is badly written.

Good luck to him though

The best coaches are ones with an open mind, he appears to have that, always tried to play the right way, even if he didn't have all the ability, players like him are far more likely to be good coaches than some yard dog defenders who were boss at shouting at other players

I thought it was a good read, a little heavy on his Dad to begin with, but once you get to the meat and bones of the article, its quite a decent read. Hopefully he will go on and have a decent career, problem is though in club management, if there is not instant success you stand no chance of being able to build anything.

Gash as a player so who knows if he is a good coach, he well maybe but as the very best players seldom make good coaches he could succeed and if he can make a living at it well fair play to him

His team just made it through to the semi-finals by beating Switzerland and Germany. Team performance was very impressive, especially winger Scott Wright (Aberdeen) who could be another prospect.
