I know what you mean. At times it seems like Moyes will never change. But maybe we saw a glimpse of something changing last year after the loss at Wembley. The next game we go to Old Trafford and I couldn't believe we were the same club. It was an incredible performance (despite letting in 4 goals) and was a far cry from the previous year when we went to Old Trafford and parked the bus. Maybe all Moyes needs is better players and an occasional kick in the pants.
That was a one-off. Somehow we did produce two moments of great attacking football late on to snatch a draw. But we normally lose in such games under Moyes.
He has this reputation for saying 'I want to win the league' at the beginning of the season within the media, but it's clear from how we start the season, we are playing scared. He is not a positive manager, he just fools the media because he's clever with words.
Look how embarrassing we were away to Man City. It was pathetic, they were so scared and giving to the Man City Gods. He just wanted to avoid a thrashing that's all.
His quote of 'knife to a gunfight' must have been so inspiring for our players. We start the season scared because the players have been made scared of failure and the positivity sucked out of them. I could pull out dozens of quotes which show how he treats Everton's chances, or how he criticises his own players or puts them down in subtle ways. He's comfortable whether he finishes 15th or 8th. That rubs off on the players.
A more creative and ruthless manager would have had the balls to sell Saha for £8m to that Turkish team when the interest was there, and dare I say we could have probably got a similar fee for Tim Cahill a couple of years ago.
For me, what will always remind me of what Moyes is as a manager, is the fact he sold Wayne Rooney and replaced him with James Beattie. I am not saying this because Beattie was regarded as a failure, I am saying it because Wayne Rooney is Wayne Rooney and he signed a boring non-skilful player as a replacement. People I know are going to scold me for this but I think to myself, what if we'd tried to push a deal for someone like Aguero or similar at the time, for say £14m? We could have at least been mroe creative than James Beattie. Something exciting in the mini-mould of Rooney. It was pathetic.
Moyes is a stats man and usually plays it safe, too safe. I think tactically we actually have one of the worst managers (especially in ratio to his reputation) around. Nevermind 11th best paid in the world.
I really believe that. The big sides normally embarrass us on the whole since he started managing us. And people are right to now in bigger numbers be realising that in the big games, or against good footballing sides, we usually lose, the derbies, the semi-finals, the finals.
People are right now (and in more numbers) to point out his huge flaws.
This club should in no way now be in danger of relegation, with or without Moyes. He deserves credit, though he's had ten years to do it, of changing that squad into a much better one. And he's had hardly any money in the past few years.
I think if we repeat our usual start to the season by christmas there will actually be a stronger movement within crowd-goers against him.
However, there's nothing wrong with being positive about the good things Moyes has done. Or about how we start the season.
You can't really disagree with points the pro-moyes people make. They're not wrong.
But nothing will change within Moyes! That's why more and more people are just desiring a change subconsciously. It's gettting boring.
