Sandhills station

It's small ( or rather large) things that i find so poor and infuriating.
Just one point out of many.
Season tickets go up for sale, thousands and thousands sell.
Then the buyers of them hear cars are banned from within miles of the place.
That was just ludicrous.
I think that might have to be looked at again . There's no 'solution' here that won't involve more parking down there.

You're right.

And none of the same responsibilities are placed on the Jockey Club to get people to Aintree for Grand National.
To compare it to the set up at Aintree you`ve to take into consideration that the gates open well before racing starts so that you have, even on national day, a steady stream of people over a couple of hours heading there. Then afterwards you get folks leaving as early as the second last race, and some staying at the course for well over an hour or more after racing finishes. With the football most folks are heading to the ground for an hour before KO and leaving at the same time at FT.
An extra platform like there is at Aintree is the least that should have been added to Sandhills, but building a new platform or a new station will not make much difference if there isn`t enough trains to provide a useful service.

A concesus forming with the match going blues i know in real life is becoming clear.
They do not mind walking 30 or 40 to get to the match, most of us did it.
What they won't do after the 30-40 minutes walk is then face the queues, jostling, possible delays and the uncertainty with public transport to continue the onward slog home.
They'd opt to walk 10 minutes longer back to car and just go home.

A few blues I know work on a very simple logic: if you park close to the ground (by that, within the restrictions, although you may not be overly close) it's £10 a game.

If you do that over the season, you're putting £190 down for league games alone. A train ticket is likely, on average, £4ish, which is £76-£86.

A parking ticket is £35, so you would be able to get caught five times and still save money if you typically park, and two times if you currently get the train.

For some, it's probably worth the risk if you don't park ridiculously close. A person who sits near me parks in a road within a five-minute walk of the ground...

... he's been caught once in two seasons, and three times in the last five.

IF they remove the parking ban, that’s a massive help - they can even make money off it for gods sake

Exactly. But can the council see beyond their hatred of cars to do the right thing?

Problem there is if town is in the opposite direction to where you live.
I would assume many, many fans come in from the east seeing the traffic flow on the lancs down through Walton Hall Avenue on matchdays.

100%. And yet, amazingly, there was no facility provided at the first test event to travel from/to the Goodison or Walton area. Exactly how dumb are these transport planners?
