Sampdoria insist Samuel Eto’o wants to join them, but “nobody can figure out who is in charge at Everton.”

The transfer saga is dragging on, as Samp announced via several interviews over the last few days that Eto’o had agreed terms for a transfer.

They were waiting for him to extricate himself from the Everton contract, but that is taking far longer than expected.

“I haven’t been working in football for long and can say this is a weird working environment,” said Sampdoria President – and movie producer – Massimo Ferrero on Sky Sport Italia.

“People say one thing and then do another. Nobody can figure out who is in charge at Everton, but we are getting to a breakthrough.

“What are the chances of the move happening? Let’s be prudent and say 50 per cent. Eto’o is a reliable man and is very eager to come to Samp. We’re down to the last details.”

Sampdoria. Ah Sampdoria. ROFL. lol

These Serie A clubs aren't used to being unable to make decisions quickly - AND FIX MATCHES are they.

Not in the working environments they have.

LOL. Just LOL.:hayee:

He's been owned by 7 clubs in his career, not really that many considering he's well into his 30s. Apparently he would be taking a pay cut to go to Italy too. So yes, it is harsh, unless you want to speculate about what is going on behind the scenes. I'd rather judge him by what I've seen of him.
7 clubs and you dont consider that to be a lot? some might say he's a journeyman, I prefer to call him a mercenary. Will sampdoria be his 8th? 33 is 'well' into your 30s? So what exactly have you seen of him during his 5 months? Tell us what exactly? "apparently " taking a pay cut? Are you speculating by any chance or merely dealing in "hearsay"

I'd say 7 was a lot for a 33 yo. Also, will he pay as much tax there?

If the 'free to an Italian club' clause is true then the delay post the NY Cosmos interest makes sense, as they will have no doubt offered us a fee. Our preference would therefore be to sell to them rather than let him walk on a free to Sampdoria, hence the comments from Italy about not being able to get hold of anyone.

"Tell him I'm not in love" lol

Hopefully it's more than a preference - why would we let him go on a free? He may not have cost us a fee, but I bet he commanded a more than decent signing on fee, as would his agent as well. He is also under contract - and currently getting paid no doubt an extortionate amount of money per week doing diddly-squat whilst his current team-mates can't hit a barn-door, something he's allegedly pretty good at when played as a striker!

He clearly wants to go. If it is for family reasons just come out and say so, no disrespect there, but if he simply doesn't like Bobby, tough - lots of us don't like our bosses but still have to go to work.

Does anyone else think his age is massively over talked about. 'Well into his thirties'.

He's 33. Still got a couple of years in him many more.
Tbh think the age of most footballers is talked about too much. As soon as they get even close to 30 it appears some think they are a ticking time bomb just waiting to go off.

Of course all athletes hit an age when their skills decrease but it can often be sensibly managed so they can still be useful, especially if they have looked after themselves and are signed on with a low fee. Lampard is proving that with City and Terry was written off as too old about three seasons ago yet is actually looking less jaded than a much younger Cahill.

I've already made my opinion on Eto'o quite clear in my first reply so no point in going over it again, clearly you are just going to nitpick now.

It surely must be inevitable that he's going. I wouldn't be happy as a player knowing he hasn't travelled with the rest of the squad and has stayed behind to try and push the move through. If he was staying he would have gone with the squad. Pretty stupid how it's all panning out tbh.

My guess is that the manager doesn't want him on the trip and wants shut of him out the dressing room asap.

Sod him. We've got Lukaku, who needs more game time than Eto'o.

Was fun having him here but, ultimately, not arsed if he leaves.

Its much easier to read Martinez with regards to players leaving than it was with Moyes - & it definitely looks like Eto'o is off. I thought he'd be better tbh, would be a good move for us if we can reinvest his wages into someone more effective for our 1st team

Two ways to approach that answer. He looked good when given game time in the beginning, and in his position. Was messed around with after that for inferior players really.
Agree re huge wage bill off the books. However, are you confident that his replacement will be of similar quality?
