Think the wages are being blown out of proportion. The fact he's on a free effectively negates the higher wages. 30k a week for 2 years works out at £3.1m. If we signed someone of Eto'o's quality for £3m and were paying 50k a week everyone would be loving it.

It's not like the hattrick was against fecking norwich, though.

It was against the defending champions.

It's hardly 'when the going is good'.

Christ, we still idolise Oviedo for doing literally a 1/3 of what Eto'o did.

You need at least 2 top strikers these days, its a long, long season this one we're involved in.

There's no transfer fee involved here, and though he'll probably command a decent signing on fee (I dread to think) he's worth paying big wages to for just 2 years.

The way I see it;

If he wanted a payday he would not be joining us, he'd be off to AC where he could get a nice wedge.

Based on what I saw at Chelsea he still has the passion for the game.

He still has a bit of pace, maybe not the speed he used to be but he's no slouch.

One of the greatest goalscorers of my generation (im 23) is signing for Everton Football Club.

He is a poacher, the ball will fall to him in and around the box and that's something we lacked last season, the ability to bring someone on like Kevin Phillips etc. Someone who can just come on, stay in and around the goal and find the target.

I'd be happy with a striker of Eto'o's (how boss does that look like in writing?) stature. I'm sure he will be made aware that Rom is our undisputed number one striker, but he'd get good money from us, and after all, after his spell in Russia, he's not all that needy. So anyway, he could add some versatility to our strike force, which would do us good, and he's more than capable of scoring a number of goals. His last season at Chelsea was fine too, I just had a look at his statistics, 12 goals and 7 assists in 1800 minutes, that equals almost one scorerpoint in a game, which is excellent.

1800 minutes is equal to 20 full games, 12 goals and 7 assists is a very good return, if we get that kind of return from him this season it will have been a very good signing.

Like a few others on here, I'm underwhelmed. He was in decline when Chelsea signed him last year. I just don't feel his legs will up to it or that his heart will be really that committed to Everton. Just an old pro winding down his career. Of course, I'll be more than happy to eat my hat (the one made of chocolate) if he turns out to be aces.

People dont come to the prem to wind down their careers, they go to Qatar or the MLS.
