Just seen the presser, sack him now and use a weekly club survey to pick the team until the end of this utter drain of a season.

He’s been very lucky the lower end of the prem had been so poor. In other seasons you might have had Leicester Southampton even West Ham pushing the top 6 properly and solid mid table sides like Stoke being combative. We should be middle of the bottom half given how we’ve performed but as others are so poor we’ve remained in 9th which is the stat currently saving him from significant pressure.

Today’s embargo - could be 10:30, could be earlier - will be his comments responding to the growing speculation surrounding his future.

If you didn’t already guess that.

A run of just two wins in 11 - including heavy defeats at Spurs and Arsenal - have increased the pressure on Allardyce but he insists he has not gone to the board this week asking for their backing.

“No. Not at all. No,” he said.

“I’ve got 1,000 games under my belt and seven Premier League clubs. This is not the only club I’ve been at where there has been rumour and speculation about my position.

“I’ve lost out on two football clubs by a change in ownership, they simply don’t fancy you when there is a change at the football club for some reason.

“This football club, just for now, we know its ambition, I certainly know Farhad’s ambition and it has lifted and excited everybody across the board.

“At the moment we’re having an instability that we have to make stable and then rebuild to go forward and the way I can do that is, as I’ve been saying for weeks, I’ve got to get results, the players have to get results and if we get results everything moves forward.

“If you don’t get results there will always be speculation about you and your job.”

At his pre-match press conference, Allardyce said the expectations at Everton were the same as at former clubs West Ham and Newcastle.

But does he think his expectations of the Everton team this season differ to those of the supporters?

“I don’t think that is any different here to anywhere else I’ve been,” he said.

“Because as a professional your life is all about what you’ve trained to do all your life and supporters’ expectations are simple: commitment, passion for the shirt and performances that show that you are committed to that shirt and that football club to try and get results to send the fans home happy.

“And that doesn’t change anywhere at any football club I’ve been at, in any division.

“The bigger the support-base, the bigger the pressure, the more you and the players have to handle it so we have to, obviously, do better away from home but I have to say that we have very few people mentioning our home record which sits in the top four.

“Our points per game over eight home games would certainly sit in the top six so we’ve got one side of it very, very good but the other side is poor so we’ve got to balance that off: keep the good side going and get better on the negative side which is results away from home.”
