What I find wonderful is the news story below that one.

Moyes - I won't be rushed.

It's ok, yeah you take your time. We have err one fit striker, You have one month to sort it out. Maybe you should pull your finger out a tad. Sorry, but unless you want the fans on your back, maybe now is not the time to be taking your time.

this has got to be one of the strangest comments for a long time - 'won't be rushed'?
well, it's not like the January window is a surprise is it?
It's not like all the available players stand behind a curtain and at midnight the curtains open and everyone rushes around trying to buy and sell!

Surely he must already know who he wants so why say such a strange thing like 'I won't be rushed'.?

Weird.

So, we sit back and wait for who's left on the shelf at the end then do we?

I do like DM, he's proved to be a shrewd operator in the transfer business (almost always) but sometimes he really confuses me with the stuff he says.

Thank God he is the manager then and not you.

I dont want him rushing into any deal, i want him to find the right one who will benefit the team

Big Vic is back to fitness so he'll do untill we can get someone....anyone. That Itaie bloke from Florentina is one I'd stick a tenner on.

Looks like were definitely buying/loaning a striker during the transfer window. What a shame I think we all enjoyed Saha's brace against West Ham, his skills are unquestionable.

He needs alot more than a run of games HB, he needs to learn how to control a ball, look up when in possession, run into the right areas (before the ball is played there)and read the game. If he was ever going to make it he would showing some signs of being able to do these.

my prediction, within two seasons vic will be in the lower leagues.

He has shown all of these signs and a lot more. Given the right run he will become a very good prem striker

We defanetly need to buy/loan a striker now as victor is nowhere near goog enough for the prem.

Sorry to say, but i totaly agree with you. Hope im proved wrong. Doubt it thou!!

He really isnt good enough to lead the line for 90mins. Cameo at the end is all he's really good for!!

I think that's harsh Harry. His control, touch and technique have improved big time this season, he doesn't look like a baby elephant every time he gets the ball like he did last season. He's even done well outwide, kept the ball well for us and made some driving runs forward. His technical ability has definatly come on.

I agree about movement and running into the right areas, he needs to improve there. But that does come with playing games, the sharper you are and the more you play the more you develop your game.

He's certainly not a goalscorer, of that I have no doubts. He doesn't have that natural instinct. He could be a good team striker though, a battering ram like Emile Heskey. A decent Premier League striker who works well with an out and out goalscorer.

That's what I think. One of his big atributes is holding the ball up and strength -- just look at the Uefa cup run last season when he'd come on and just bulldoze through defences.

But I also feel that the more competative games he has the more his awareness will get better.

Some strikers are born with it, others start in lower leagues playing week in week out before getting that cutting edge.

Ofcourse it will, the more games he plays the sharper he's going to be. The more he plays upfront the more he'll learn his position.

People tend to forget that Victor has barely started 25 games in his whole career and those games have been spread out over two and half years. He doesn't play week in week out so naturally he's not going to be as sharp as the players around him.

A 20 year old who's not sharp and not match fit is going to frustrate people, that's only natural.

It's quite obvious to me that his control and hold up play have improved alot, how people can't see that I don't know. He's not going to be a Berbatov but he's certainly looked capable of keeping hold of the ball and bringing people into the game.

And I'd like to add that in those limited amount of starts he's also scored 11 goals which is a good ratio. He's 20 years old and there is lots of time to improve and get better.

Thats why its called a risk, it either works or it doesnt, no big deal. Onwards and upwards Everton!
I think we are rushing to judgement. We will only really know if its a failure at the end of this season. For now, its obviously not good, but if he came back for the last 10 games of the season and banged in goals which got us into Europe, everyone on this forum would be praising Moyes for being astute.
