Safe standing at Bramley-Moore

Isn't the safe standing one rail seat per 1 standing.

How can the capacity be increased with that ratio for safe standing.

The green guide allows for 1:1.8 ratio, it all depends on the legislation that gets through.

We've installed rails at NWHL in both the south stand and the away section. The current regulations say everyone must be provided with a seat, and that's exactly what we're doing. Nowhere does it say there can't be a rail in front of that seat!

When it (eventually) opens our stadium will have de-facto safe standing, and it should show up the absurdity of current regulation. People against safe standing will be left arguing these sections of our stadium are inherently unsafe with the seats locked upwards (as they would be if the law changes), but are perfectly safe with the seats unlocked. lol

We're being a bit sneaky with this, going by the letter of the law, if not the spirit, but hopefully it should move things forward for every other club too...

There is no doubt the atmosphere was better when standing was allowed. Been watching a few Everton games in the 70s on you tube, some have only 20,000 at but the thing that strikes you is the noise from the crowd. Sage standing is the way foreword then you can decide if you want to sit or stand. Nothing for me beat standing in the 70s and 80s with yr mates. Understand the hillsborough thing. In fact I remember going to a Sheffield Wed game in the league cup around mid 80s and being in the leaping lane behind the goal and the swaying of the crowd was unbelievable. Even then I remember thinking this was an accident waiting to happen. But safe standing is the way way foreword. Hopefully 15,000 to 18,000 behind the goal at Bramley Moore will be fantastic

At a 1:1 ratio. The question when it comes to increasing capacity is if you'll be permitted anything higher than that. And on that point, nobody knows.



It can't. The club is entirely reliant on a change in the law that allows for higher ratios.

Maybe they know something everyone else doesn't, or maybe they're just hoping it'll change.

Projected capacity for BMD single-tier is 12.5k vs 17.5k at NWHL. NWHL south stand has >80 rows, BMD I would say has just over 60, but it's obviously designed steeper so it's nearly as tall. Lastly, NWHL wraps around the goal end, whilst BMD is cut out from it so isn't as wide either. If the proposed plans don't change it isn't as big, that's just a fact.

If the lower section of the stand is converted to safe standing (as the plans suggest will be possible) you could approach the NWHL south stand capacity. But that relies entirely on safe-standing ratios that are currently not permitted.

...I’ve never understood why fans want to stand up at a football match so this wouldn’t be for me but I totally accept and respect that many would like this.

And im the opposite. I hate sitting. I can understand how many would love to sit. But what i hate is all the sitting and then standing. Does my head in. Either sit or stand. Back of gt4 currently suits me if i dont have the kids with me

Agreed. Anyone who experienced the terrors of the massive terrace at Birmingham City in days gone by would understand what you mean.

I think that hooliganism, as you said, and a complete lack of health and safety considerations made standing at matches unsafe in the past.
As you know Brisan there are standing terraces in every GAA ground in Ireland where supporters can be packed in on the days of a big game and this is done without and problems for organisers or fans.
Croke Park has a capacity of 82k and is an ultra modern stadium with great facilities as is Pairc Ui Chaoimh with a capacity of about 45k.

Standing can be safe at game, it doesn't rave to have a ratio of 1:1 because it must be properly organised and stewarded.

With technology these days it would be so easy for them to keep count of how many are in the ground as they go through the turn styles . Would pee me right off tho if I traveled up from Southampton and got there and they guy before me was the 62,000th person and I could t get in . Also I’m 5”5 so standing usually meant I seen eff all of the game .
