Unbelieveable stuff from the government.

The brand new make it easier to sack people, proposal

Essentially they are trying to make it easier for employers to get rid of their staff.
Apparently employers are reluctant to take anyone on because it's too expensive to get rid of them, utter crap.

For example one of the "Highlights" of this proposal is

  • A cap on loss-of-earnings compensation for employees who make successful unfair dismissal claims

So in other words it will make it cheaper for an employer to get rid of you, regardless of whether the dismissal is justified or not.

FFS , we already have fewer rights than most of our european colleagues and work longer hours.

I think its a good thing

Will get rid of old dead wood that can be replaced by younger folk who have more energy

My company could have done with this a few months ago. I'd hate to think what some absolute weapons got as a payout

It works both ways I guess, a previous boss of mine demanded I work a weekend unpaid to meet his deadlines and come under budget, I said no, he wanted to sack me .. HR got involved and he got a bollocking, under the new law it makes it that bit easier to for employers to demand what they like under the threat of sacking.
Also they are changing TUPE rights, at the moment if you're taken over or outsourced to another company, they have to retain all of your benefits, pension, or offer equivalent alternative, new laws could remove this right

Nik you maybe in trouble

As an employer, the laws governing this at the moment are a nightmare.

We can't get shot of anyone for not being able to do their job properly unless it's within a probationary period. If you do your job then no firm will just 'sack you', when you don't we're pretty screwed at it stands....
