Well he's either our marquee player or itll be the same way every high profile Australian signing ever... by employing their wife in the club shop or something for £100k a year.

Isn't Widdop the marquee for Wire? Never really bothered to learn the ins and outs of the cap tbh so if there are two allowed or something...

When did the marquee rule come back? I know they done it in the early 00’s so the sport could keep the likes of Cunningham and Radlinkski from going to Union.

It's a huge gamble considering he'd retired through injury and seems a crazy time to make that financial commitment as well. Whoever is running the club shop online just had their workload increased though!

Making a habit of acquiring over the hill players on big money thesedays are Warrington. Inglis will go alongside the likes of Widdop and Burrell for that. Quite amusing seeing some of their fans heralding this signing, they did that with Burrell and he's made little impression in the games he's played.

Inglis was absolute class, but that was quite sometime ago.

Wait and see i guess. I remember towards the end of his time with souths you barely knew he was on the field sometimes compared with what he was in his prime years.

I suppose time will tell. Obviously the break may have helped, but thus far Widdop has been pretty underwhelming because of fitness issues, and you could argue the same for George Burgess, and possibly even SBW. There's a reason these guys aren't playing in the NRL. If they're wrong 'uns, such as Barba, you can get some good performances out of them, but if their fitness has gone.

It's also worrying to hear that the sport is planning to reduce the cap by £300,000 to cope with the fallout from Covid. While you can understand it, it would mark a further deterioration of the sport, both in relation to the NRL but also Union.

What is your cap at the moment?

Can't think off the top of my head, but have a feeling it might be £1.8 million. There will be all manner of caveats and loopholes though, whether in terms of homegrown players, marquee players and all that.
I thought it was a lot closer to the nrl than that, it's only a third. There was a time if memory serves me correct that the superleague cap was near on par with ours here.
