I think the club thought it was certain he'd be staying and Barkley wanted to stay, but last season he's seen his arse over the way Koeman manages and tells it straight, where as under Martinez he could have 5 below average games in a row and still be picked for the next game.

He's worth closer to £60m if his contract wasn't an issue.

No way is the Ox worth more than Barkley, he makes Sterling's end product look immense.
Both in their last year, the media are always willing to say Barkley is tosh, but you check his stats against others in the league in his position and he's right up there, they don't do their homework.
