I completely understand the sentiment you're trying to get across here and wouldn't ever try and legislate or moralize someone's life. Saying all that though, I just feel he's been unbelievably blessed to not only have played for his boyhood club but to come back so strongly from his leg beak half a decade ago. If it were me in that scenario I would spend my money on creating an environment around me that would help me succeed professionally (which in this case since he's one of us, personally too) to the utmost, i.e. dietician/cook, personal trainer for the off season, etc.So glad you picked this point up.
I've said it a few times but there's definitely fans who forget that these players are real people. To some they seem to be players and that's it. They see them on the pitch and that's the end of it. It's really worrying.
They're only human after all. Don't put the blame on them.
Maybe that's too harsh and I'm too robotic when it comes to a work / life balance but with what he's been able to earn if he's smart about it he can retire and live however he's deems fit from 30something on. Plenty of time and young enough to run around whatever town he chooses and running around with whatever woman he chooses.
I fully understand I might be an anomaly though.
