Ross Barkley

I still go back to his first derby when we were unfortunate to draw 3-3. He was dropped back deep and ran 'kin riot against a far better Liverpool team than that.

When is the penny going to drop that Barkley is never a player you have that far up the pitch looking to lay off and link up?

Personally, I think Ross can play the so-called "No.10" role up in support or even alongside a striker, but I also see your point on him playing from deep.
Maybe, there's a case for playing in one or either role depending upon the opponent and venue?
If he could be coached into being equally comfortable as a playmaking midfielder and/or the "No.10" then maybe we get two players for the price of one?

It's one of the few times he's been played there, that's why you have to go back for it!

If he was exceptional there, it wouldnt be a man on an internet, suggesting he plays there.
It would be his managers, none of whom believe, or have ever believed, he is good enough for the role.

He absolutely cannot play the number ten role.

The trouble is every midfielder thinks he's a 10, they're not. The same goes for Coutinho today, when he goes to Barca they'll play him as an 8 and he'll demolish everything in that position.

Barkley is an 8, end of

To me, he needs a settled position and know exactly what he'll be doing week in week out. He'd never get a playmaker role in better teams than us. If/when he leaves the potential of this lad will come roaring through, imo. I just dont see him putting it all together with us. Sad but true n my estimation.

I could care less what his managers think. I see it that way and I think I'm right.

I'd suggest that until such time as we sign a genuine co-striker to play alongside Lukaku, then dependent upon the opposition and venue, Ross can be utilised further up the field. He has an eye for goal and can shoot with both feet.

I'm not suggesting this is his best position, I'm suggesting that until we have that second striker to play with Rom, Ross can - if required - be played there when the situation permits i.e. against a weaker opponent at Goodison.

Souness murdered him. It's like the past three months never happened. This one match somehow overrides all the improvements he's shown this season.

If I was playing with him, I would be falling out with him. Not every game; every five minutes. He runs with it when he should pass it, he passes it when he should run with it. His decision making is poor in the extreme, and you can be kidded by him sometimes because he will do that: turn away from a couple of players and flash one over the bar.

He's got all the equipment to be a player, but I just see his decision making not improving. And if his decision making doesn't improve, then he won't improve as a player.

I see him as the kid in the playground. That's how he plays football to me.

There will be plenty of this type of criticism about him after today. Mainly due to then fact they've seen him twice on the Tele this season

So you're admitting the manager fecked up by playing a hot headed local lad out of position in the biggest game of the season?

I reckon I could play #10 behind rom and in front of Morgan and Gana against 80% of the league, when it comes to the real deal the manager needs to bear the brunt of today but seems to be getting away with it, again.

It would be a crying shame if, to realise his full potential, he has to leave Everton - it would be arguably the biggest abdication of responsibility by a club towards a protégé since... well, I'm not quite sure, but it would be a crying shame.
