Ross Barkley

....continues to play well. He never seemed the type who would look for a move elsewhere but his contract situation is a bit of a mystery. Prior to Christmas RK said talks hadn't begun which seems strange given that time was running down on his current deal. I'm presuming negotiations are happening but the longer this goes on the more likely it is he'll also be off.

After yesterday's game RK said we were keen to secure the services of Lukaku and Barkley but there's nothing the club can do if players don't want to sign. Interesting.
I know we can't say anything for certain but I tend to believe what RK says in his press conferences, because I think, underneath it all, he's a pretty honest person. In the weekly presser 2 weeks ago, he said he had spoken to Ross personally about his contract but that formal negotiations between the club and his representatives had not yet started, and that the club would be doing everything to get him signed up.

Fast forward two weeks he is asked again about Barkley's contract. Annoyingly you couldn't hear the reporters questions, but I'm assuming that he was asked specifically about what would happen if Ross didn't sign by the summer, and he gave the answer that you would expect him to give. Cue everyone, press and fans alike, putting two and two together.

Everyone just needs to relax. Nothing, contract wise, is sorted in 2 weeks. Until Ross or his agent come out and says something, similar to what happened this week with Lukaku, then we just need to chill.

I don't know why his contract hadn't been sorted out earlier, like we are trying to do with Rom. But Seamus Coleman, who many fans think should be our next captain, has a contract expiring the same day as Rom and nobody's in a panic about that.

I actually think Ross will sign. I also hope Rom will too but we'll see what happens in the summer. If somebody is prepared to pay our asking price then he may well be gone, but I also think there will be a deadline for that. The scummy agent will be told he can go for xxx by xxx date, and armed with that he can then tout him round his potential suitors.

Arsenal being linked with a move - although the credibility is ruined by (a) Wenger's situation (b) the fact the quoted price is £10m.

He's purring, playing really well.

Less unpredictable than a few seasons ago.

I reckon he's playing at about 75% of his total ability. If he gets back that running at defenders and making them [Poor language removed] scared, using a bit more instinct than thought, he can get better.

Pretty sure Koeman said two weeks ago he hadn't officially been presented with a contract to sign yet. Nothing to see here, he'll sign when he's offered it.

This. and with two years left you would think it's the time to get it done
hence why the press keep mentioning.. maybe trying to get to his head with
all the 'big clubs' in for him because the first time in a while we look like we
can challenge them 'big clubs' an there totally flappin it. i reckon.

Agreed

Only in the media can they refer to 'Big Club' and think they can dismiss Everton.

Most media hacks are RS/ Mancs and they will HATE that our owner has plans for a new stadium and already the USM FF sponsorship deal indicates we are attempting to muscle in.

Lukaku - needs to move
Ross - needs to move
Gana - needs to move
Davies - exciting talent: will need to move
Coleman - needs to move

That is half an outfield team that the media is constantly trying to shift onto United / Arsenal / Chelsea.

I am sure Schniederlin would be in that bracket had we not just acquired him from Man U.

These 'experts' are panicking as they have already seen City and Spurs muscle in on their clique.

There hollow, bitter words will not prevent us either.

nice post agree 100% .. Gana , Davies first seasons an all that
already trying to sell them off. it's beyond a joke how hilarious they are.
wonder what they'll be like when where back winning things again [hopefully]

If he doesn't sign his career will go downhill in my opinion. He isn't good enough to be 1st choice at any of the top 6 sides and should be more than happy to play for us

...he is playing brilliantly at the moment. Looks a different player than even a few months ago.

I think any Everton fans taking for granted that he'll sign are being a bit silly. Some of the treatment he has from the Goodison crowd was woeful. I couldn't blame him not having as much love for the club left.

I still think (and hope) he'll stay but it's not a foregone conclusion.
