Ross Barkley

This suggests that you think he would develop further under a different manager or different management style. What sort of style of management / system do you think would help him develop?
Under a manager that didn't constantly hang him out to dry in the media but kept firm instructions on how to play in a more disciplined manner in-house.

Another thread gone.

Did you see the Spurs game, Dave? He was all over the place, taking the game by the scruff of the neck and trying to make things happen

Didn't help that the rest of the team were gash like, but he tried.

First off, I dont agree he did take the game by the scruff of the neck. Spurs were in command of the scoreline and they naturally coughed up the ball to us a bit more. When we have to chase a game like that something has to be tried. Cue Barkley being given the license to get things going. Similarly when we have an opponent on the rack and the game is all but won he'll get his chance. But in most other circumstances Barkley isn't licensed to cut loose and get us from parity to something better. He's neutered in that respect. He's made him a player that now only reacts to the established pattern of a game.

"A common statistic that many people have begun to value and notice a lot recently is the chances created statistic. Chances created, according to Opta's website, is defined as "assists plus Key passes" where a Key Pass is "the final pass or pass-cum-shot leading to the recipient of the ball having an attempt at goal without scoring" (Opta is a company that tracks and generates a ton of data in soccer). So basically, any pass that leads to a shot is considered a chance created."

Key Pass
- The final pass leading to a shot at goal from a teammate
So, if I were to take a corner and pump it into the box and a team mate got a head on it or a volley in that went miles over that's me creating a key pass?

That's a piece of piss then.

So is getting the ball and running with it for 3 seconds before getting tackled.

Technically, yes.

Some don't count Corners though.
So there's not even a universal rule around 'key passes'?

As a metric it sounds about as useful as a chocolate fireguard...which is probably why no one really uses them.

Well, yes because Free-Kicks and Corners can fall into their own category. 'Set-Pieces' or something.

Plus I think more or less everyone uses 'key passes' and 'chances created' to rank and compare players now.

This is useless, doesn't include dribbles per game, the bottom one that is
