Ross Barkley

Well in Ross. He put two tackles in at one point and the Park End rose to applaud him, and we're generally miserable arl arses so it means a lot when we get off our seats.

He actually looked confident making those tackles too, whereas in years gone by he'd have gone in hesitantly as though his leg break was in the back of his mind.

I'd have given him dogs abuse if he'd missed though !
Imagine if he'd scuffed it lol

Credit where it's due, the manager has handled him exactly right by the looks of it, he finally looks like he is starting to belive in himself rather than overwhelmed by all the hype surrounding him, best thing often to build someone is to break down and start again almost, from those who saw him early on before the leg break he was supposed to be that type of player who on top of all the skill got stuck in as well, seems finally over the last 3-4 weeks that he has gotten back to that.

Fair play to Barkley as well, not easy to handle that tough love approach and learn from it - but he has done and taken it for what it is, the best way to bring his talentout.

Added point, one of the better celebrations i've seen at the old lady, love a bit of arrogance like

Do you not think us Evertonians are weird?

We have a player who skips past 3 players like no other player can, then over hits or misplaces a pass to put Rom through on goal, and we scream at him as if he's just messed with your 15 yo daughter. But he throws a tackle in and we're off our seats like he's some sort of messiah.

Just saying.

All the best Everton players I've seen in my lifetime have been capable of doing sexy things with a ball at their feet, but never shirked from putting a shift in

You can only do the sexy stuff if you have the ball.

I remember reading a little report thing on the official site when he was around 16-17 (before the leg break.) He listed heading and tackling as two of his biggest attributes. Heading and tackling!

That leg break is such a shame because it really seems to have had a huge impact on how he plays. Hopefully we're seeing signs he's getting past that. He didn't seem too hesitant putting in those tackles today did he?

some of the tackles he made today - if Gana had made them or Barry we'd be raving over them mate, noticed he's growing in confidence by the game on the defensive side, that happens then the idea of him as a true box to box centre mid may actually happen

Good game from Ross today, quietly went about his business. Think it was him who played a crazy 40 yard looping back pass, but otherwise, very pleased with him. Definitely rewards coming with hard work.

There's a difference between putting a shift in and throwing tackles in.

There are many boss players in this league that don't go around throwing tackles in, but don't get the stick that Ross does. And there's been a few with us over the years; some who are cult figures like Kanchelskis and McKenzie.

But let's just enjoy the win and an excellent performance from Ross;)
