Ross Barkley

I sat next to the dugout yesterday and found it interesting that Barkley seemed to be the one that Koeman got most frustrated with. Interesting but not surprising given what had gone on before.

(He also went mad at one mistake Holgate made)

Sunday People gave him a 5 (out of 10) for yesterday
Sunday Times a 4

Lowest scores for the whole team.

Something is badly misfiring here. I do wonder what he'd be like if he hadn't had that double leg break or the alleged threats from a crim.
What threats mate? never heard of the

I hold a large chunk of the fanbase responsible for what has happened to Ross - no wonder the lad has zero confidence. I've experienced it every time we play at home - always on his back. He gets the ball and they expect him to do things with the ball we have never seen in the history of football. The the abuse starts once a few sloppy passes are made. Barkley is the product of Goodison expectation.

One thing Koeman is not shy of doing is letting players know he's not happy, what he needs to do better is channel that anger in such a way as to encourage the players better.

Nobody responds to well to a public haranguing, most people react better to encouragement.

It is quite clear to me, RB is leaner, fitter and sharper and actually starting to play better, yet you still get some who can not wait to have a go at him. We had 2 fellas behind us in the Park End yesterday, who dont normally sit there, never shut up until my son told them to give it a rest....please, please get behind the lad, you might be surprised at how good a player he can actually be

Ok, what did he do wrong yesterday?

I remember a through ball he had a bit more time with that they got lucky with clipping the back of a leg and some poor corner kicks but I don't remember any other mistakes.

Neat touches, excellent distribution, tidied things up but really no one was moving bar enner until Del came on.

Ross is not the problem.

who would you replace him with that is proven in the league, would want to come here, affordable and still young with potential?

I'm quite happy to accept that he isn't going to be Everton's Gerrard, and would like to see Koeman work on developing him into a more orthodox central midfielder.

However, it seems the manager has other ideas, and I would be very surprised to see him stay beyond the summer.

....it appears to suggest Barkley's position in the team/squad isn't guaranteed. I suspect RK isn't overly enamoured with him.

The question then would be to ponder whether the manager is/was right. That substitution was obviously wrong, maybe his judgement shouldn't be clouded by feelings when a match is there to be won, or lost as it turned out.

He's not a number ten. Try him in central midfield. If that doesn't work out, ship him out before his value plummets further.

...I think there have been quite a few times when we'd all question the managers decision, I know I certainly do but he needs to do his own thing. Ultimately he'll be judged on performances but we clearly need change so I'm content to let him get on with it.

Barkley is an emotive subject because there are polar views but change will always cause angst, RK needs to get on with what he wants to do.

I agree with your sentiments as until he has his own players, there'll always be the 'only working with what I've got' reason.
I hope he gets the players he wants, just like I hope he gets us playing a style of football to excite (mixture of last 2 managers).
However, I will be gutted if Ross is one of the scapegoats, farmed off somewhere else, only to shine.

In fairness to RB the movement around him is very poor - formation (RL to hit) doesn't suit him hence the frustration at overplaying when perhaps he is simply looking for a positive option. I am certain if he played for a spurs he would shine.
