Ross Barkley

The problem we have is barkley was given a free role and able to ignore defensive duties under Martinez

Koeman doesn't accept anyone doing that.

It's affected Barkley's form. He just needs time to adapt.

Above all CONSISTENT management. As what will ruin him is different people all telling him to do different things.

He needs to master defending and also relearn his strengths in a game. Yes he also needs to be super fit playing in midfield.

Not this BS of playing him one way one week then another the following week. Consistency in how he's managed is vital.

Martinez was stupid for not ensuring he learned an organised set role in a team also.

Played the best footy of his career.

His problem for me is that he has to get out of his head that he has to be the main man every game, and just go out and start enjoying his football again.

Absolutely, as I've said many a time, he's a confidence player - as soon as he realises he's better than 90% of the players he plays against we will see the real Ross.

for me its time to move him back in to the middle instead of playing off the striker. he doesn't have the brain for the no10 role. in a mid field 3 id sit him slightly deeper than the other 2 and let them press the opposition and have him ready to pick up the loose ball deep and make the darting run forward an also have him arriving late at the edge of the box when the defence has retreated in to the box so he has space to pick his spot while the opposition blocks the keepers view.

Played the best football of his career but in a losing team. Should tell you something!

As I said.

Koeman needs to moderate public criticism and ensure that Barkley is learning the roll for THE TEAM that he has to play.

When in possession and when the team isn't in possession.

His best game is running with the ball from deep at pace.

That was always his best play.

He needs to also be more decisive and not try to ALWAYS play superstar options but if the shot is on - he should take it.

His indecisiveness at times when the shot is there is infuriating as is the need to always seem to need to take that unnecessary extra touch.

Theres a great player in there. Its just he's had too many different managers telling him too many different things.

Becoming a jack of all trades and master of none, due to stupid management.

He should of been parallel to McCarthy and running from deep into the box.

It's incredibly infuriating and it's the aspect of his development that concerns me the most, as his decision making has not developed as it should.

An ol' arse said something to me that struck hard: he's not a kid any more, this is his fourth season and we can't continue to make excuses.

We all recognised the potential he had and can make excuses regarding how others did not support his development, but he needs to step up.

I agree. He does need to step up.

However, he needs to be deployed properly and given clear instruction of what is expected from him when we are not in possession of the ball.

Also what he should be aiming to do (without getting continually carried away as he is at the moment) when in possession.

I'm scathing of how Martinez managed him.

Can't help feel a lot of these comments apply to most of the squad and can't really work out why people are targeting Ross.

Maybe the influence of the media? I don't know. But when I see the headlines, then read Koemans comments; the 2 never add up. The rags will always try to make something out of nothing, think we should judge with our eyes.

IMO, Ross is improving and as soon as we see some better ball playing midfielders around him, he will thrive. Will be interesting to see his form come February/March, when hopefully we have some more quality in the squad.

classic case of a young player being over coached. remeber people calling him the new gazza, that's been coached out of him and that plum that ruined him and england , don't start me !!!!
