Ross Barkley

Lampard never, ever controlled a game. He made a living off getting into the box and scoring/assisting - he was brilliant at it. Not once was he Chelsea's playmaker though.

We expect Barkley to be the complete package. He's getting there, but it's taking a while. That's fine. The best thing he can do at the moment is eradicate the silly mistakes he's been making for the past two years out of his game. It needs a lot of determination from him and a string manager - he definitely has one of them...

Well no, he wasn't. Scholes played just over half the games in the period, and was not even anywhere near close to the player he developed into.

But lets destroy Ross for not being complete at 22.

Gibson also won more than what Ross has....

His stats from his first 4 seasons in a team that won the PL twice and the FA Cup

But no it's fine, keep deluding yourselves into thinking Ross is better than one of the greatest footballers this country has ever produced as a 22 year old.

OK, well Man United played around 60 games a season, and he played in half of them.

He was not world class at 22, and you are comparing a complete Paul Scholes,

It's funny when people think Barkley's poor form gets highlighted more than others because he's scouse. It gets highlighted more because he's the only one in our squad that people pretend is playing well when he's not.

Ross also plays a more attacking role than those players and doesn't contribute defensively as much as those players did. A more suitable comparison in role/generation would be Raheem Sterling 132 apps/ 28 Goals /18 Assists/ 46 combined at 21 years old. I thought he was terrible at Liverpool and last season at City but watching a few City games this season he has stepped up another level where Ross has gone backwards.

Scholes played as a striker!

Plus you have to take into account the teams they were playing in.

Scholes and Gerrard were in multi-trophy winning teams playing alongside top quality players.

Is it just me or was there a time that Barkley use to sprint up and down the park with and without the ball. That Newcastle call a few years back summed up everything that was fantastic about Ross but as soon as I see him float around the middle of the park or watch players run away from him well......

Yeah you're right but most of those appearances I'd wager were as sub. He didn't really hold down a starting spot till he moved into midfield. And Liverpool won trophies because Gerard dragged them through on so many occasions. He was their stand out player.

That RS team Gerrard played in was not top quality by any stretch of the imagination. He single handedly lifted them up a few levels. When Ross is doing that then I'll start to take the comparisons seriously.

Would be interesting to compare Barkleys record to Sterlings stats, can anyone get them ?

I can forgive him all day if it's a killer pass that doesn't quite come off or a shot that gets saved or hits the woodwork. It's the misplaced 5 yard passes and dithering on the ball choosing whether to shoot or pass and then picking the wrong option that infuriates me.

There's probably more scrutiny on him because of his position and the fact he's a local lad. It's up to him to deal with that extra pressure and be the player we all hope he can be.
