Ross Barkley

For me Barkley has developed into a solid midfielder ,he will score goals ,and supply assists I can see him being our captain one day. What he will not be is a player you build a team around which is what we all hoped for. It is this disappointment that fuels his detractors to overstate his perceived flaws. By contrast his supporters overplay his talents which causes friction between the two camps. A solid premiership midfielder is'nt a bad place to be . He's just not the worldie we hoped he would be.

I agree that some people overhype him, but i'd argue that he is already more than a "solid premiership midfielder".

He was right up there with the best of them in terms of goals and assists last season. He has more goals than Gerrard and Lampard did at his age, and while I doubt he will reach their levels he is certainly on the road to becoming a top, top player.

We should cherish him.

....new contract rumours are an interesting development. If true it could be an indication that RK thinks he's the real deal, I think that would be a significant endorsement.

Was always gonna happen IMO Eggs. He only has two years left. Get him signed up until 2021.

Not sure it would necessarily be an endorsement of RK Eggs. It's something that we simply have to do as he only has 2 years left on his current contract.

I'm not suggesting RK doesn't rate Ross. In fact, the lack of any serious moves for a playmaker during the last window can in itself be considered a serious endorsement by RK.

I have to agree that Barkley is a solid midfield player but not the outstanding world class player i thought he would become 3 years ago. I appreciate his loyalty to the club, but if i had to choose keeping him or Lukaku, I would choose Lukaku- the reality is Barkley would be much easier to replace and improve upon than Lukaku will be.

You do realise countless world class midfielders weren't world class at barkleys age.
