Check out his defensive stats in the stoke game though also mate, 2 out of 2 tackles won, 2 blocks made, 1 clearance i believe - those are solid stats for a defensive midfielder nevermind one who is an attacking one.

shows that even when creatively he's not on form in a game then he still contributed - and thats an absolutely massive thing if it becomes the standard of play for him when off form in the attacking third

That would also be nice, as we know he can have really poor games but a squad will always have players who don't play at their best for the whole season, who have bad games but who overall contribute enough to be valued and worth their place in the team or their place on the bench when the manager needs to take them out. I think Barkley is proven now as a good to very good Premiership player and even if he doesn't kick on contributes more than enough to our season.

I understand comments about him not reaching that next level or a higher level, if he doesn't, but I don't think he should be criticised so harshly for it or slated as he is some times. (not that I'm saying you are, its just my opinion in general)
 
I really believe getting another more experienced player in who will play the same role as Ross would help him and help us ! someone who can come in for him when hes not on it ! but someone he can look to every day to see what they do day in day out ! as we dont have anyone he can learn off in that role !

Very few players do it every single week. Even some of the best in this league have plenty of off days.

He is a very good footballer, he is a blue and he will have his off days. I'm alright with that. If he gets better still and those off days become fewer and fewer then fantastic, but if he only ever kept his current level he would still be a very good Everton player. I'm alright with that.

It's the problem with some fans, constantly judging him against this idea that he could have been one of the best in the world or something. How about just appreciating what he does do.

...I don't dislike the lad, he just frustrates me so much when I watch him. He is a very good footballer, most Premiership footballers are and he's clearly trying very hard to become the more rounded midfielder RK wants him to be but he was wasteful at Stoke (RK specifically mentioned this in his after match interview). He needs to cut that aspect of his game out, especially when we are under the cosh like we were at Stoke.

I'm not sure about that. I think at this point he needs to have nailed down a starting place, he's a senior player now and has been playing like one these last few weeks. He doesn't need to "learn off" anyone, our younger players need to be learning off him.

I think we do need to bring in another creative player mate but for different reasons. Ross is literally our only creative player at the moment. I'm hoping Davies may develop that side to his game but at the moment I think it's unfair to rely too much on an 18 yo, no matter how good he is.

If Ross is out of sorts, we have nobody else to break down teams. Plus teams that park the bus can quite easily allocate 2 or even 3 players to nullify Ross, and he hasn't learnt yet how to cope with these situations. Not many players do tbh.

Basically we do rely on him far to much from a creative aspect and when he doesn't perform, invariable Everton don't, and vice versa. It's probably one of the reasons why he get's so much stick at games too. Believe me if he's bossing games and scoring/assisting every week, nobody would be questioning his work rate or tackling. Guarantee it.

We need another creative attacking midfielder to compete with/compliment Ross every bit as much as we need another decent striker to compete with/compliment Rom.

Hope you don't mind me saying Eggs. You're normally the voice of reason on this forum, rarely if ever going OTT regarding any player or topic. But to me, you don't seem to be showing Ross the same slack you give others. You seem to be more demanding of, and critical of him.

I've not gone back and looked at your posts on this thread by the way, it's just something I've picked up on over the last month or so, mainly because it's so unegglike.

The problem people don't seem to be able to fathom with Ross is often he gives the ball away when if he didn't we would have a chance to score so it sticks out in there mind. He is operating in a more advanced role than our other midfielders yet is better than all bar Gueye whose passing is usually very short & keeping us moving.

He creates 2.63 chances per 90 minutes one of the highest in the league our next best midfielder is tom Davies who creates 1.11 chance per 90 mins played.
He also has the same number of assists as the rest of our midfield put together.

Wasteful your looking in the wrong place
